EcoPulping, an efficient & economic way to transform agri-wastes into an alternative to wood pulp for packaging products
About us
NER Ltd are at the forefront of the research and development into the use of straw (wheat, barley, oat, rice, corn, reed), transforming it efficiently into paper pulp. Our research team has developed a process that overcomes the cost and environmental disadvantages of a normal straw pulping. Using our 25 years experience in cellulose extraction from straw we now have an effective and efficient way to reintroduce straw into the paper industry offering significant environmental advantages, by-products and income opportunities. We are producing wheat straw pulp in our first pilot scale Mill in the UK and our new commercial plant in China. The unbleached pulp can be used in packaging or paper or for other applications. Second harvest materials like straw and brewers’ spent grain have the potential to save up to 10% of the virgin fibres used in the papermaking process, according to DS Smith, and therefore, ‘present an important and viable means to supplement traditional sources.’ Nick Thompson said, 'Businesses are keen to understand how they can adopt more circularity into their supply chains and finding secondary uses for what are currently seen as waste materials are key to that.' #packaging #materialinnovation
