Aquaculture UK was an incredible opportunity for the MSD Animal Health UK Ltd team to engage with the heart of the industry, share insights and learn from the community we’re proud to be part of. Reflecting on the event, here are our key takeaways: ✨Innovative solutions – there was much enthusiasm around technologies such as our Vaki Grader, Counter, and Pump with integrated SmartFlow solutions, along with the Falcon® Biomass solutions. Since the event, we've received significant interest in seawater deployment for the Falcon® Biomass units, so watch this space for more updates! ✨Community and collaboration – Joel Ellis and Dr Dario M. were thrilled to attend the Salmon Scotland AGM and the launch of the Young Aquaculture Society (YAS). The discussions highlighted strong support in developing a young aquaculture professionals’ network in the UK. ✨Recognition and celebration – it was wonderful to see so many of our customers and familiar faces at the Aquaculture UK awards in categories such as rising stars, community initiative and farmer of the year. A huge congratulations to all the awardees! Their achievements show their dedication and excellence within our industry. A huge thank you to everyone who visited our stand and shared their experiences with us. We’re eager to put our learnings into action and keep pushing the boundaries of innovation in aquaculture! #AquacultureUK2024 #FishFarming #ScienceOfHealthierAnimals #AquacultureInnovation #ScottishAquaculture

In order to drive efficiency in the sector, the use of data in the aquaculture industry is key. By determining fish performance trends, fish farmers can better understand their production system and identify ways to make it more efficient and sustainable. As one of the UK’s biggest exports, farmed salmon production is efficient and environmentally friendly. But why? Salmon farming involves very few activities which involve the combustion of fossil fuels, meaning the industry has a very low carbon footprint. Last year, Joel Ellis, Aqua Aftersales Technical Support, visited aquaculture colleagues Bertil Storvik and Jan Ivar Bildoy at MSD Animal Health Aqua Norge to learn about MSD Animal Health Aqua Sea-Based Technology Solutions. During the visit, Joel spent time in and around the MSD Bergen office where he was able to engage in collaborative discussions about in-feed treatments. He also was able to visit a nearby fish farm to better understand how technology can be used on fish farms, and even toured the R&D Labs in Bergen to learn more about the work currently being undertaken by R&D colleagues based there. At MSD Animal Health UK, we encourage collaboration between global colleagues and relish the opportunity to share and learn from each other to provide the very best animal health solutions for our customers. #ScienceOfHealthierAnimals #Aquaculture

Did you know that the aquaculture sector is one of the fastest growing food production sectors globally, growing at a rate of 5.5% per year? Despite the continued growth in the sector, the aquaculture industry is thought to be sustainable and fish farms must follow high standards of fish health and welfare to protect seas and fish populations. To find out more about standards for fish welfare, visit Salmon Scotland https://lnkd.in/eh5ZQw9v #ScienceOfHealthierAnimals #Aquaculture

Fish health and welfare are key areas of focus for MSD Animal Health UK. Technological solutions, such as the VAKI Smart Grader, are a great example of developments which can help producers to monitor their stock. VAKI Smart Grader delivers accurate fish grading data, while minimising the impact on fish as they pass through the outlets. It’s #FishFactFriday! Scottish salmon is farmed to an incredibly high standard of health and welfare. In fact, around 70% of Scottish salmon is certified to the RSPCA Farm Assured scheme. This is a higher percentage than any other UK farming sector, meaning salmon producers must reach stringent animal welfare measures to achieve accreditation. The remaining salmon is reared to the same high welfare standards under other accreditation schemes. At MSD Animal Health UK, we’re committed to helping the aquaculture sector produce healthy and sustainable fish.
