Welcome to the latest issue of Mix Interiors – highlighting diverse perspectives and new ways of approaching design. Inside #233 we sit down with Blacksheep Toni Black and Orms' John McRae to discuss career-defining projects and designing in an accelerated age, and explore the latest exciting case studies – from Pinterest’s showstopping Dublin HQ to a compelling blend of British and Asian design at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group Mayfair. Elsewhere, we feature two Mix Roundtables: discussing colour as a designer’s most important tool with IMPACT ACOUSTIC®, and examining the power of honest conversations around sustainability with 2TEC2. Plus, Katie Treggiden unwraps the concept of ‘craftivism,’ PLP Architecture looks to the future of research-led workspaces and Dominic Lutyens explores whether women have been written out of design history — alongside more conversation-starting insight from our regular line up of expert contributors. Originally built in 1749 as St Paul’s Hospital, the H Club – officially known as The Hospital Club – came to have a storied history as a private members' club for the London creative scene, with its basement film and recording studio playing host to high-profile bands like Radiohead. Carefully retrofitting the Victorian-era building and offering a lesson in adaptive reuse (with the renowned recording studio still in operation), Buckley Gray Yeoman's in-house interior design studio BGY ID has since transformed the iconic club into a future-forward workplace in the heart of Covent Garden. After 10 years at Oliver’s Yard, London-based architecture practice Orms has made the move to 160 Old Street, a refurbishment project the studio completed back in 2018. Formerly a Royal Mail building, the new location has doubled the firm's occupational footprint and provides a ‘shop window’ for the practice’s people- and planet–focused way of working. In our latest issue, we sit down with director John McRae to explore the practice's reuse-first approach and designing places with soul in an accelerated age. According to Libby Sellers - design curator and author of the book 'Women Design' - women make up nearly three-quarters of the design student population, yet this figure drops to less than one-quarter in the actual industry.
