The service was announced by the Public Health minister last week. The Heart MOTs will be getting underway later this month in Medway. September's 'Know Your Numbers! Week' is running from 2nd to 8th this year and the theme is 'You have the Power'. It is very important to Know Your Numbers! as high blood pressure often displays no symptoms. A third of people in the UK don't know that they have it, potentially leading to serious health complications for them. Once you Know Your Numbers!, you can then access the appropriate support if needed and guard your health, preventing heart attacks and strokes in the future. 🤒 Workplaces play an important role in aiding awareness of high blood pressure and educating their staff on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. One of the team read the fantastic newsletter from Campaign Against Living Miserably earlier this week which said they receive an increase in calls to their helpline during the summer. Whilst most of us may associate the sunshine with good mood it is also a time of increased loneliness and isolation for many. The increase to mental health helplines during the summer is also backed up by research published by Psychology Today which found loneliness and psychiatric difficulties increase in spring and summer. Factors such as high temperature and high humidity increased physical stressors. Social factors also play a part, particularly when those we rely on for support might be on leave, away and usual routines are disrupted. Can you reach out to someone and check in on them today? Hot weather advice With warmer temperatures forecast, a yellow Heat-Health Alert has been issued for the south-east, including Medway.   The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office guidance will apply from 9am on Sunday, 11 August to 9am on Wednesday, 14 August.    During hot weather, we all need to take sensible precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.   Young children, older people, those who are pregnant or who have long-term medical conditions or disabilities are the most affected by high temperatures.   Residents are encouraged to regularly check on their vulnerable friends and family and make sure they have plenty of water and supplies, including medication.   We can all enjoy the warm weather by following some simple steps to stay safe in the heat.
