Earlier this week, Richard Gibbs, Partner at Marks & Clerk, was featured in Law360 commenting on the Intellectual Property Office UK's (UKIPO) 2023/24 Innovation and Growth Report. In the article, Richard highlighted the key role the UKIPO is playing in developing the UK’s IP landscape, stating that "the recent surge in applications before the UKIPO, coupled with applicant-driven demand for robust and easy-to-use online procedures, should continue to drive the UKIPO’s ambition to improve and modernize. The support offered by the UKIPO to applicants of all types, should not be underestimated." Starting September 1, 2024, Romania will officially join the Unified Patent Court (UPC), expanding the court's jurisdiction to a significant new market of approximately 19 million consumers. Since its inception in June 2023, the UPC has already proven to be a vital institution, providing clear, well-reasoned decisions on patent validity and infringement across 17 EU member states. Now, with Romania's inclusion, litigants can benefit from UPC rulings that extend to this new territory. As Thomas Prock explains in our latest article, this rapid expansion of the UPC is a promising sign that more EU member states will soon follow suit, further strengthening patent protection across Europe. #intellectualproperty #intellectualpropertylaw #europeanlaw #upc #romania #patents https://lnkd.in/gMizvKSc
