Yesterday, I officially matriculated into the University of Oxford at Mansfield College, Oxford! I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in English Education, under the supervision of Professor Velda Elliott and Gary Snapper at the Department of Education. Building on my bachelor’s and master’s research in critical literacy, I’m excited to delve deeper into how these practices are embedded in the IB English Language and Literature curriculum. My research will explore “student agency,” with a particular focus on the role of meta-cognitive practices, encouraging students to think critically about their own thinking. As an IB graduate and having worked as a supply and aftercare teacher at Branksome Hall this past year, I was reminded of the program’s distinctiveness—especially how teachers model meta-cognitive strategies to foster purposeful reflection in students. Additionally, as a Research Assistant at the Chandaria Research Centre, I explored the impact of technology (e.g., social media and AI) on students’ socio-emotional learning, which equipped me with valuable insights to investigate the growing role of AI in educational contexts. I would like to give heartfelt thanks to Andrea Mills, Erika (van Vogt) Lo and Emily MacLean from the primary school, as well as Natasha Koustova, PhD, Jordan Sutcliffe and Mira Gambhir, Ph.D. from the Chandaria Research Centre, for your warm support and guidance throughout the year. It was a pleasure working with all of you, and I look forward to staying connected with the Branksome Hall community!

Poco después, este sábado tuve el honor de ser parte de una ceremonia también cargada con cientos de años de tradición: “matriculation” en University of Oxford. Así, ahora soy oficialmente parte del programa Doctor of Philosophy of Law (D.Phil), en el cual estaré investigando temáticas sobre derecho privado y responsabilidad civil comparada. Al mismo tiempo, estoy disponible para asesorías e informes sobre derecho privado, consumo y competencia. Como siempre, gracias a María Victoria Alonso Saralegui que estuvo ahí para acompañarme, y que se lució con esta foto! -- A few months ago, I attended the 373rd Commencement at Harvard University, where I graduated from its Master of Laws (LL.M.) program. Shortly after, this past Saturday, I had the honor of being part of another ceremony also steeped in hundreds of years of tradition: "Matriculation" at the University of Oxford. Thus, I am now officially part of the Doctor of Philosophy of Law (D.Phil) program, where I will be conducting research on private law and comparative civil liability. At the same time, I am available for consultations and reports on private law, consumer protection, and competition law. We're delighted to announce the recipients of the Mansfield-Ruddock Art Prize for 2024: Eunjo Lee Jamie Bragg and Brandon Saunders. 🎉   Established in 2019, the Prize acquires artworks from the Ruskin School of Arts degree show each year for Mansfield's contemporary art collection. 🖼️   Jamie Bragg’s winning piece, an oil, acrylic and pastel on canvas painting entitled ‘My pal Dixon with my chum the Donk!’, was inspired by the experiences of his great grandfather. [📷 2]   Eunjo Lee’s winning piece was ‘Lullaby O’ The Ruin’, a 16 minute 3D experimental animation filmed in 4K. Eunjo’s work blends theoretical and mythological elements to expand the sense of life. Today, I had a great session hosted by the Mansfield College, Oxford Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at Oxford University, where we delved into the complexities of global scamming, particularly focusing on how people are recruited into these operations. In countries like the Philippines and Thailand, vulnerable individuals, often seeking economic opportunities, are lured into scams through deceptive job offers. For instance, some are promised high-paying jobs in the tech or customer service sectors but end up working in call centers for fraudulent enterprises. Reports indicate that many of these operations exploit young adults, offering them basic pay while subjecting them to coercive environments where they are pressured to scam others. I attached several slides that I found particularly informative for individuals in the combatting human trafficking field, as they outlined effective strategies for prevention and intervention.

A jam-packed first week at the University of Oxford Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, including Matthew Goldberg, President of the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty’s talk, with thoughtful insights from Bonavero Director, Kate O’Regan, former judge of the South African Constitutional Court, on the inequality, arbitrariness and error that sits at the heart of the death penalty. Along with many more coffees and conversations about all things human rights. Grateful to have been named an Associate Fellow of Mansfield College, Oxford and very pleased to see their celebration of pioneering women Fellows at the college.

I am humbled to share that I have graduated from the University of Oxford with a First Class degree in Jurisprudence (Law) and was honoured to receive the Worsley Prize for combining a high level of academic performance with an outstanding contribution to College life. My time at Oxford was a period of profound personal and academic growth. The academic rigour was a constant challenge, pushing my limits and testing my perseverance. There were moments when I felt out of place, navigating a complex environment where I often doubted my belonging. However, each obstacle provided a valuable lesson, teaching me that growth often comes from pushing through difficulties and learning from mistakes. In moments of self-doubt, the continuing support of my family, friends, and remarkable tutors, along with guidance from above, kept me grounded. I owe a special thanks to Rory, whose steadfast belief in me inspired my self-confidence. Amid the challenges, the experience was also exhilarating, filled with new adventures and discoveries. I found solace and strength within the warm community at Mansfield College, Oxford, where I forged lasting friendships. Looking ahead, I am excited to begin my LLM in Legal Practice (SQE1&2) at BPP University Law School this September and to start my training contract at A&O Shearman in 2025. #Education #Growth
