We are delighted to have been named among the finalists in the Best Retailer (Under £500m) category at the Retail Gazette Awards 2024. The award recognises retailers who are growing sales and winning market share in a difficult trading environment. Making the shortlist is a testament to our Majestic teams across the business – from People to Property, Marketing to Merchandising, Stores to Supply Chain – whose passion for wine delivers for our customers every single day.  Congratulations to all of our colleagues and to all of the other retailers who have been shortlisted this year. We look forward to seeing you at the awards in London on 16th October 🥂 #TogetherWeAreMajestic #ProudToBeMajestic #RGA24 #retail #wine #awards

It’s fair to say we’ve popped quite a few corks this week as we toasted £1 million of fresh investment into our growing bricks-and-mortar estate. Not only have we opened two brand new Majestic stores in East Dulwich and Brentwood, we’ve also unveiled two refurbished shops in Stratford-upon-Avon and Bearsden as we double down on plans to expand and modernise our nationwide portfolio of shops. Majestic stores in East Dulwich, which opened on Tuesday, and Brentwood, where the ribbon was cut earlier today, both stock our full award-winning range of more than 1,200 wines – including dedicated areas for Fine Wine – plus beers, spirits, low and no alcohol alternatives, soft drinks and snacks. Customers are already benefiting from free wine tastings from the in-store Tasting Counters; free delivery from the stores’ dedicated electric vans; and our unique ‘No Quibble Guarantee’, which allows customers to return any wines they don’t like in exchange for a bottle of equivalent value. Online shoppers can also choose to click and collect from their new local store within just four hours.  The new stores opened their doors for trading just days after our property teams unveiled two revamped branches in Bearsden and Stratford-upon-Avon. Both shops have been equipped with new shelving units, updated store signage and a fresh store layout, with wines now merchandised by style rather than by country – making it easier for customers to navigate, and improving the shopping experience. Majestic CEO John Colley said: “Investment in our store portfolio is at the heart of our growth plan at Majestic, whether that’s opening new stores or refurbishing our existing estate. Landing £1 million-worth of investments in the space of just a week shows how serious we are about our commitment to bricks and mortar, and our aim to open an average of one new store per month over the coming years. “We are really excited about serving even more communities around the country, sharing our expert knowledge with them, and helping thousands of new customers discover new wines, beers and spirits they will love.” #TogetherWeAreMajestic #NewStores #wines #beers #spirits #retail #expansion #growth #EastDulwich #Brentwood #StratfordUponAvon #Bearsden

What a night it was for Majestic at the IWC Industry Awards 2024! Having been shortlisted as finalists in six different categories – more than any other business – our colleagues walked away with three trophies. We were delighted to reclaim one of the biggest prizes on offer, the Large Multiple Retailer of the Year award. This accolade recognises the strong progress we have made across the business during the past 12 months, growing sales, enhancing our product range, expanding our store estate and making further investments in our colleagues’ learning and development. Majestic were also crowned IWC French Specialist – recognising our “exceptional performance” and “deep understanding of the market” – and IWC Rose Specialist, after the esteemed judging panel concluded that we “flourished” in the key category as a result of our “increasing focus on premium selections”. We were also ‘highly commended’ in the South Africa Specialist category following another year of strong sales growth and improvements in the quality and depth of our range.       Majestic CEO John Colley said: “This is thoroughly deserved recognition for all of our colleagues who have been at the heart of the incredible progress we have made during the past 12 months. We wouldn’t have achieved these prestigious awards without their passion, dedication and expertise, and I’m delighted that this has been rewarded by the IWC’s esteemed panel of judges.”  Huge congratulations to our colleagues and all of this year’s IWC Industry Awards winners, and thanks to International Wine Challenge for hosting such a memorable night at The Oval 🥂 #TogetherWeAreMajestic #ProudToBeMajestic #IWC2024 #wine #awards

At Majestic, our network of stores and our passionate, knowledgeable colleagues are at the heart of everything we do – and that’s why we’re committed to further growing our bricks and mortar portfolio over the coming years. As part of those ambitious expansion plans, we’re aiming to open an average of one new store per month across England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands during the coming years, as we seek to help even more communities discover new wines, beers and spirits they will love. We’ve identified 125 towns, cities and villages across the UK that we believe could be a perfect fit for Majestic and our award-winning proposition. Our wish list for potential new stores includes almost 30 locations in Central London, a further 14 areas inside the M25, seven in the North of England and Scotland, and three in Wales. New Majestic stores will be opening their doors in East Dulwich and Brentwood later this month, with further shops planned in Solihull, Plymouth and Wimborne Minster before Christmas – and who knows, we could be coming to a retail park or high street near you soon! Majestic CEO John Colley said: “Experiential, bricks-and-mortar retailing is at the heart of what we do at Majestic, and we are committed to opening up to one new store per month during the coming years to help us reach even more customers across the UK. “In addition to the new stores already in our pipeline for this year, we have identified more than 100 locations across the UK and the Channel Islands that we believe would be a perfect fit for Majestic. We are excited to start serving even more communities around the country and helping thousands of new customers discover wines, beers and spirits they will love.” Jackson Criss #TogetherWeAreMajestic #ProudToBeMajestic #retail #wine #NewStores

Thanks to Kate Devlin and The Independent for backing the wine industry’s latest call for the incoming Government to urgently review the alcohol excise duty system. From 1st February 2025, 30 new tax payments are set to be introduced on wines in the 11.5% to 14.5% ABV range – one duty rate for every 0.1% ABV. HM Treasury aimed to introduce a system that was “simpler, fairer, and healthier”, but have instead implemented a regime that is unnecessarily complex, will spark needless administrative cost increases for businesses, and will threaten the futures of 1,000 independent wine merchants operating across the UK. As Majestic CEO John Colley told The Independent, the new duty system will “increase prices and threaten the quality and choice of wines that UK consumers are currently able to enjoy”, should producers choose not to do business with Britain as a result of this additional red tape and bureaucracy. John concludes: “Everyone is a loser here – small business, consumers and the Treasury – and the policy needs to be stopped before it is too late.” Read the full article online here: https://lnkd.in/eq_DX7ZV Wine and Spirit Trade Association Miles Beale Hal Wilson Cambridge Wine Merchants The Conservative Party Rishi Sunak The Labour Party Keir Starmer Liberal Democrats #AlcoholDuty #WineEasement #GeneralElection #politics #policy #wine #retail
