🚣♀️ Fantastic achievement from pupils at SEND Secondary School Bensham Manor in Thornton Heath, who recently completed the Great River Race last month, where they covered 21.6 miles from the London Docklands in the East to Richmond in the West 👏
Pupils from SEND Secondary School Bensham Manor in Thornton Heath entered an excellent team into the Great River Race last month, where they covered 21.6 miles from the London Docklands in the East to Richmond in the West. A huge thank you goes to the City Bridge Foundation, who covered the cost of the team’s entry fee, training sessions, boat hire and towing to start of race, training and racing kit, lifejackets and mandatory identification flags for the boat. Through their own fundraising, the pupils raised an incredible £300 for wellbeing initiatives for less-able children in the school. A round of applause for the Great River Race pupils of Bensham Manor in Thornton Heath 👏

London United reposted this
Vice President, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI); Instructor, TH Chan Harvard School of Public Health; Senior Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity
This coming Thursday it’s #worldmentalhealth day. Thanks West Ham United Foundation for all the work you’re doing in partnership with your communities in the mental health space. Today we met some of the mentors who support your people in schools and the community, and really enjoyed seeing the active participation of fans in short conversations about mental health as they entered the stadium. It was brilliant to join you pre match including pitchside alongside brilliant health leaders Navina Evans and Lorraine Sunduza, and ex West Ham United FC Anton Ferdinand to continue to promote mental health and the potential of the football - health partnership into the future. Given the massive #football following across the country and ‘the power of the badge’ to positively influence communities, I can see the potential for London United , the wider set of Premier League Foundations and indeed all other football league foundations to continue to work closely with NHS and other partners across England in service of best possible population health. Just think of the numbers: the NHS employs over 1.4 million people in England and serves millions more; football teams are connected to many millions of people across the country. There’s so much that can be achieved now and towards 2030, leveraging your work to date and everyone’s assets in terms of knowledge, commitment to better, connections to families, schools and more. Congrats Joseph Lyons and the wider team for all you’re doing. And look forward to continue to work together. Upwards and onwards… #bekindtoyiurself, #MentalHealthMatters, #EndTheStigma, #MentalHealthAwareness, #YouAreNotAlone, #WellBeing, #MindfulLiving
