London Internet Exchange (LINX)
Technology, Information and Internet
Uniting Networks. Igniting the Internet.
About us
The London Internet Exchange (LINX) is one of the largest Internet exchanges in the world, connecting over 900 member ASNs from 80 countries around the globe. Our primary service is peering, the exchange of data between networks, working for the good of the Internet since 1994. LINX continues to expand their London presence with 16 PoPs across the capital along with regional exchanges in Wales, Manchester and Scotland. LINX also operates an Internet exchange in the Ashburn metro area in the US just outside Washington DC. Our regional Internet exchanges help to keep the exchange of traffic local, reducing latency and providing an overall improved service for the end user.

#LINXat30 Fact 10: LINX onboard new technical partner Juniper Networks in 2011 as they embark on a redesign of the LON1 London interconnection fabric. The redesign allowed new services to be deployed like VLAN tagging and 100G ports, but was also scalable enough to cope with the predicted additional traffic anticipated by the London 2012 Olympic Games taking place the following year. Systel Limited, a leading telecommunications and network services provider in Kenya, are the first provider to enable the Microsoft Azure Peering Service (MAPS) at #LINXNairobi 🎉 MAPS is a unique service that LINX offer as an official partner of Microsoft, allowing networks to improve connectivity via a direct route to Microsoft (AS8075) with no minimum traffic levels required. With the integration of MAPS, Systel will benefit from low-latency performance for their end user usage of services like Microsoft365, Dynamics365, Teams or any other Microsoft service accessible with the public internet. Mike Hellers, Product Development Manager for LINX commented; “LINX MAPS is becoming a very popular service for us in the UK for networks in the enterprise and public sector industries. We are thrilled to be able to launch this service only this month in Nairobi and already we have Systel adopting this solution in their networking strategy...." "It’s a unique service that the local ISPs here can really take advantage of as it requires no minimum traffic levels and it can be incorporated alongside other LINX services like peering, through one of our multi-service ports.” Read the full story of Systel's LINX journey here https://lnkd.in/eB9AU3DT #PeeringandMore #AzurePeering #Interconnection #NetworkStrategy #IXP #Peering #MultiServicePorts #LINX #LowLatency #DirectPeering

#LINXat30 Fact 9: It's 2009 and LINX was experiencing peak traffic of over 500Gbps and total connected capacity surpassed 2Tbps. Then CEO John Souter was also interviewed by Royal Academy of Engineering publication Ingenia, for an article titled 'How the Internet is Really Wired' - a great overview of how LINX was born, the state of the Internet in 2009 and what the predictions were then for the future of LINX and IXPs... https://lnkd.in/ez-BwBNM #TheInternet #PeeringandMore #Engineering #IXP #Peering

#LINXat30 Fact 8: In 2008 LINX broke out of the Docklands and expanded their London network considerably by adding 3 new locations to the interconnection fabric. As they were referred to then... the new sites were Telecity Powergate in the West of London, Interxion in the City and Equinix in Slough.
