About us

Laureus is a global sports-based charity that works to improve the lives of young people. The first Patron of Laureus was Nelson Mandela. At the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards in 2000, President Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can awaken hope where there was previously only despair.” This has become the philosophy of Laureus and the driving force behind its work. Laureus combines Laureus Sport for Good, the Laureus World Sports Academy and Ambassadors Programme and the Laureus World Sports Awards to form a unique organisation that uses the inspirational power of sport as a force for good.

While the back-to-school period has started, H&M Move and Laureus Sport for Good are thrilled to kick off their partnership in Paris to underline the importance of movement and sports in the everyday life of kids and youth. Our new two-year collaboration is part of the H&M Move Together program and was celebrated with an inspiring day, where H&M Brand Mover and AC Milan football player Nadia Nadim and freestyle football sensation Lisa Zimouche played alongside youth from the two beneficiary grass root organisations PARIS BASKET 18 and Fútbol Más France. Laureus Sport for Good City Paris initiative unites social change programmes working in the 18th and 19th arrondissements of the city to use sport to make a positive impact on young people’s lives and their community. Since 2020, Sport for Good City Paris has focused on promoting gender equity, improving social inclusion, supporting education and access to employment for over 6000 young people. #HM #HMmove #MoveTogetherHoweverYouMove #SportForGood

‘Maybe I inspire them, but they inspire me more’ Looking back at an inspirational visit to Laureus Sport for Good New York City programme Kings County Tennis League with Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa. 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of 'Laureus Sport for Good Cities'. Since its origins in New Orleans, in 2014, the concept has spread around the USA – with New York, Chicago and Atlanta being joined by London, Paris, Delhi and Hong Kong, China. The approach is founded on a core belief which underpins the mission of Laureus Sport for Good: that local people are best placed to identify and solve the most pressing challenges in their own area. A key trend we can expect to see in this year’s Olympics is athletes putting their mental health first. As a Laureus Academy Member, I took part in a recent interview about Simone Biles, the extraordinary Team USA gymnast, and her courageous decision to step away during the last Tokyo Olympics to prioritize her mental well-being. This very decision is a reason why she is so well-positioned to perform in the upcoming Games. From my own experience competing at the highest level in skiing during the Winter Olympics, I know firsthand how crucial it is to be in a strong mental headspace to achieve success. As we cheer on the athletes, let’s remember the immense mental pressure they face on the world’s biggest stage. Let’s offer our support and understanding, recognizing that their well-being is paramount to their performance! 🏅✨ #Olympics2024
