Addressing the women's health gap could add $1 trillion to the global economy - a huge opportunity highlighted at HLTH Europe this week. The inaugural event concluded yesterday and our team is hard at work developing its intelligence report. Sign up so you don't miss a thing: https://lnkd.in/eKX_PUtN #HLTHEurope #WomensHealth #Healthcare #ThinkFurther
HLTH Europe thrives on striking statistics. This week, we heard that women are up to 7 times more likely than men to have a heart condition misdiagnosed and be discharged during a heart attack. We learned that a whopping 15 million women use menstrual tracking apps. We were disappointed by the suggestion that women who run women's health companies raise less funding, and make lower valuations, than men who run women's health companies. On the main stage, Priya Agrawal, VP, Health Equity & Partnerships at MSD explained: "As soon as you say women's health, investors think 'niche'. How is 50% of the population niche? So I don't want people investing in women's health because it's the moral, nice thing to do. I want people to invest because it's a smart thing to do." Women are not a minority. Women's health is not a niche market. And the potential for growth in this market is immense: a staggering $1 trillion opportunity lies in bridging the women's health gap. It's a classic case of a win-win situation where promoting equity and boosting business outcomes go hand in hand. In recognition of this opportunity, HLTH Europe has prioritised women’s health in its inaugural edition, dedicating a stage, programming, and floor space to it. Under-discussed topics such as incontinence, endometriosis, overactive bladder, and women’s pain were given airtime. The ideation workshop, facilitated by the global consulting firm Kearney, provided a rare platform to delve deeper into the complex ‘how’ questions and actionable takeaways. In the meantime, we are already looking ahead to HLTH Europe 2025. Day one at HLTH Europe started with a call to arms from Professor Ian Abbs, CEO, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. We’re looking forward to seeing what’s to come for the rest of the week. Sign up for our round-up report to get intel from the conference, direct to your inbox: https://lnkd.in/eKX_PUtN #HLTHEurope #HealthTech #Innovation #Healthcare
What is HLTH? Well, it describes itself as a health innovation conference, and from what we’ve seen so far in Amsterdam, it’s very broad – in terms of both themes and audiences – and fairly loud. Big on ‘can-do’ energy, and the power of bringing people together. With a reasonable line in merch. The potential of tech, data and AI is central to much of what we’ve seen here so far, and the standout message from yesterday’s sessions was a wake-up call from Professor Ian Abbs, CEO of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, that without AI, “the fabric of health in high GDP countries is going to get fundamentally stressed”. “We have a massive supply-side problem: we are simply going to run out of people to deliver healthcare," he told a packed room. The NHS employs 1.5 million people, with a similar number employed in social care, and yet 52% of people surveyed in the UK are dissatisfied with healthcare. “We are out of road. We need a revolutionary moment. We’re going to have to change the world we’re in. Better, faster, fairer healthcare, delivered at lower cost, will need to have fewer people involved in the supply chain.” That was yesterday. Today, we've already sat in sessions on women's health, the changing role of biotech, and equitable access to clinical trials, as well as a keynote from Google’s Chief Health Officer, Karen DeSalvo. Updates incoming. To receive the HLTH Round-up Report post-event, sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eKX_PUtN #HLTHEurope #Healthcare #AI #Innovation
