Do you know about the support available to new parents and carers, to help you cope with the stress of a crying infant? Our teams work incredibly hard in the wake of a tragedy like baby shaking. But these incidents are preventable and help is available. This week is ICON Week, aimed at raising awareness about infant crying and how to manage it, supporting parents and carers and preventing serious injuries, illnesses and even fatalities caused by AHT, which often results from shaking a baby. The ICON programme is built around a simple, evidence-based acronym: I: Infant crying is normal and will eventually stop. C: Comfort methods can sometimes soothe the baby, and the crying will cease. O: It is okay to walk away for a few minutes if you have ensured the baby's safety and the crying is overwhelming. N: Never shake or hurt a baby. If you are concerned about yourself or someone you love, support is available. Head to 👉 https://orlo.uk/lyHuk for more information.

Earlier this week during the annual ‘Ride the Lights’ event in Blackpool, our officers were out and about making sure everyone was enjoying the evening safely 🚲 Whilst PC Nelson was chatting to the public, looking out for anything untoward, he couldn’t have imagined what was about to unfold. His attention was quickly brought to a lady who had fallen down to the sea after slipping off the sea defence walls just as the tide was starting to rapidly come in 🌊 Knowing the danger she’d be in and thinking quickly, PC Nelson, along with his colleagues, ran to her aid, throwing a life ring out and pulling her to safety; have a watch below 👇 Whilst the lady was shaken, she received medical attention and has now made a full recovery thanks to PC Nelson’s incredibly swift actions, which just go to show that our officers have to be ready to attend to any kind of emergency at all times. Think you’re up to the job? Why not sign up to our job alerts here, and you’ll be the first to know when we’re accepting new officers who make a difference every day 👉 https://orlo.uk/zqP2u
