Tune in to The One Show on BBC1 at 7pm tonight to learn more about The King’s Foundation’s Future Textiles programme, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this month 🎥🧶 Filmed at Dumfries House during His Majesty The King’s recent visit, the episode will feature interviews with graduates who have taken part in our textile education courses. Future Textiles was first initiated by His Majesty The King in 2014 to help address a skills gap within the UK textile industry and, since then, more than 7,000 people have benefitted. The scheme offers a range of courses from weekly sewing and knitting groups, to intensive programmes producing a ready to wear collection. "It's easy to build a house, but it's not easy to build a community." 🏘️   Our Building a Legacy initiative brings together thought leaders and new ideas in sustainable urbanisation. Through the project, we engage landowners and other professionals to create mixed-use, mixed-income, walkable communities that restore the balance with nature and make beautiful places that people can enjoy, and future generations can feel proud of. Meet some residents of these communities, and learn more about Building a Legacy, in our film. Watch in full on our YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eFy6kDmf Film by MOREVER 📽️

On Tuesday, we hosted our Building a Legacy Annual Event and President's Awards Ceremony at Elsick House near Aberdeen.   Building A Legacy is an initiative which brings together thought leaders and new ideas in sustainable urbanisation. Through the project, we engage landowners and other professionals to create mixed-use, walkable communities for future generations to enjoy.   During the day, we shared updates on Building a Legacy, heard from our keynote speaker, George Ferguson CBE, hosted a panel discussion on this year's theme, Regional Building Hubs, and reviewed our Annual Report: ‘The Economy of Place: Building Regional Communities'.   In the evening, we celebrated our winners and heard from a range of speakers at the President's Annual Awards Ceremony.   Huge thanks to the Duke and Duchess of Fife for kindly hosting us at Elsick House, and congratulations to all this year's winners!

An update from our Projects Team’s recent visit to Guyana 🇬🇾   The team carried out countrywide site visits and delivered the first workshops to assist the Guyanese Government in preparing their Sustainable Towns and Cities strategy as part of the national Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).    15 years ago, His Majesty The King, then Prince of Wales, played an important role through The Prince’s Rainforest Project in helping Guyana protect its rainforest: an area as large as England and Scotland combined, which has since provided an economic diversification programme supporting Amerindian communities. In a speech at the national convention centre in Guyana on Tuesday 10 September, President Mohammed Irfaan Ali said, “Today we are very pleased to have established a strong partnership with The King’s Foundation in the renewal of Georgetown […] and give it back the title of Garden City of the world. All of our cities and towns, particularly Georgetown, are undergoing rapid transformation […] Some say Georgetown could be the next Dubai or Miami. But while we can learn from these cities, we should be proud to craft our own future. Guyana has always been centred around village life, and we must reconcile this heritage with the modernisation we want to see. Let’s imagine a Georgetown that blends its rich history with cutting-edge infrastructure and technology, a city that is both cosmopolitan and reflective of our values.”

We celebrated the work of The King’s Foundation at the charity’s inaugural Awards ceremony at St James’s Palace this evening. Congratulations to all the winners amongst our students, alumni and charity partners.   Founded by The King when His Majesty was Prince of Wales, we encourage people, places and the planet to work together in harmony - delivering education courses in traditional craft skills, providing health and wellbeing programmes, and helping design and support communities to be more sustainable. Our winners across all categories have contributed towards our mission in their own unique ways.
