Have you heard of Alex Lewis and his Pig to Pig Fundraiser? Alex was a regular guy with a partner and a two year old son. He was running the Kings Arms in Lockerly and was also a stay at home dad. In early November 2013 he caught what he thought was man flu, he moaned continuously for ten days until he started to deteriorate. On the 17th of November he woke in tremendous pain, his skin had started to turn purple and he was in a semi conscious state. He was rushed into hospital and within hours of his collapse, his vital organs were being supported mechanically, his blood forced around his body with nora adrenalin. His chances of survival given by the consultants for the first 3 days was less than 3 %. He had contracted Strep A. For most of us this would be nothing more than a sore throat. For Alex it took amore sinister path to STREP A TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME , leading to Septicaemia. Over the course of the next seven months Alex was to go under life saving surgery resulting in the loss of his left arm above the elbow and both legs above the knee and sadly six months later he was to lose his right arm below the elbow. He was also to under go facial reconstruction as the infection ravaged his face and mouth as well as his limbs. Since then, Alex has taken on various Fundraising campaigns, and yesterday he started his Pig 2 Pig" challenge! Alex started at The Pig, Harlyn Bay yesterday and will hand cycle to Falmouth harbour. Once in Falmouth he will climb into the worlds first adapted Flying15 rowing boat (minus the sail) for a quadruple amputee and spend the next 14 days rowing 350 miles to Dover. Once in Dover he will fall out of the boat and back on board his bike and hand cycle to The Pig at Bridge Place. The following morning he will climb back on board his hand cycle and spend the next 14 days cycling 649 miles through the South of England whilst carrying out a school speaking event and a business speaking event everyday. He will also be stopping by Charities, Universities, Hospitals and much much more to highlight the work The FLOAT Foundation carries out here and all over the world. You probably haven’t heard much about Jeff Aston from Cardiff. At almost 80 - he’s 1 of only 6 people alive today who have run every single London Marathon - known as an “ever present”. What an absolute legend!

In just over 1 months time, I get to honour my amazing Father, by hosting a golf day at Harleyford Golf Club, which is raising vital funds for Helen & Douglas House. Helen & Douglas House helps local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child who will die prematurely. Helen & Douglas House is a homely place for local children, living with life-limiting and terminal conditions, and their families. They provide care in a warm, loving environment. We do have a very small amount of spaces left for Golf, if you are interested. It's an absolute bargain at £100pp , which includes 18 Holes of Golf, on course bars from The Henley Distillery, Rebellion Beer Co. Ltd, Gin & Tonic tent and various on course competitions with some incredible prizes to be won. After the Golf you will enjoy a beautiful 2-course BBQ within the Club House, have the chance to bid on some incredible auction prizes, and purchase Raffle Tickets, to give you the chance to win some awesome prizes. To polish the evening off, we have a DJ joining us, to help everyone dance the night away!
