We are delighted to have signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement (TCA) with the National Maritime Authority of Ecuador in a meeting with the General Commander of the Navy, Admiral Miguel Córdova Chehab, and his colleagues yesterday. The TCA, similar to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), is designed to promote collaboration with the Ecuadorian maritime authorities to facilitate a rapid and efficient response to serious maritime casualties, particularly those involving removal of wrecks and threats to the environment. The Group, represented by Chris Adie, Chair of the Education Committee, are delighted to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IMO’s International Maritime Law Institute. The Group are honoured to have a longstanding collaboration with International Maritime Law Institute who are committed to training officers, principally from developing countries, in international maritime law. #maritime #law #professionaleducation

A global opportunity hosted by the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law, Swansea University for maritime students to test their advocacy skills. The Group, represented by Jasmine Minyi W. are honoured to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shanghai Maritime University at the DSH International Conference in Shanghai this week. The Group are committed to reaching out to maritime-focused educational establishments worldwide and having entered into an MOU with Dalian Maritime University in May 2024, we look forward to collaborating on education with these two important universities in China. 

The Group was pleased to participate in a workshop with the Hellenic Coast Guard yesterday. Representatives from 11 Group Clubs attended at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy in Piraeus. The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to learn more about the role and the responsibilities of Marine Environmental Protection Directorate of the Hellenic Coast Guard in a maritime casualty. The representatives of the Group Clubs had the chance to introduce themselves, explained how an IG P&I Club operates in a case of a maritime casualty and what kind of support they can offer to the local authorities. The workshop was part of the Group’s wider commitment, under its 2023 Memorandum of Understanding, to collaboration with the Ministry and the Hellenic Coast Guard in connection with the response to serious maritime casualties and incidents. Reinsurance Committee Chair Mike Hall and other members of the Committee, as well as a number of Group Club CEOs, were pleased to host the Group’s annual Reinsurers’ event at the RAC Club yesterday. This is always a welcome opportunity for the Group to engage with its reinsurance partners and ensure that the long term relationship with the market is properly recognised and cemented. Reflecting the importance of the Asia Pacific region to global shipping and the Group’s own strategic vision, many senior Group Managers participated in a number of events in Hong Kong and China last week. Led by Group Chair Andrew Cutler, a delegation of senior managers were honoured to meet with Secretary Chen Jining, Secretary of the Shanghai CPC Municipal Party Committee to discuss the cooperation between the Group and Shanghai as well as further opportunities for collaboration, including in education.   Separately, the Group was well represented at China P&I’s 40th anniversary celebrations in Shanghai, hosted by CPI’s Chairman Captain Xu Lirong, where the Group Chair, Jonathan Andrews and the Group CEO all spoke of CPI’s important role within the P&I community.    This followed Group meetings in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong Insurance Authority, the The Hong Kong Shipowners Association Association and the Group’s own well attended Regional Correspondents event. #international #asiaoutreach #globalshipping
