🌍 Celebrating Black History Month 🌍 At InterEngineering, we believe that diversity is our strength. As we honour Black History Month, our Co-Chairs, Patrick and Fiona, are excited to be working with and supporting the other EqualEngineers networks to bring you events exploring how different intersecting identities, such as sexual orientation, menopause, gender identity, ethnicity, and neurodiversity, shape our experiences in the workplace and beyond. 🔍 Upcoming Events: EMPOWER, VISION & THRIVE: Menopause Self-Care Starts Here with Morgan Norcross, Dr. Pooh Ling E PhD CEng MIET, and Fayon Dixon. 📅 Date: 15th October 🕰 Time: 12:30 PM This online event, hosted by the Menopause Network, focuses on menopause self-care strategies and creating supportive workplaces. Hear from Sam Williams, Certified Menopause Coach, as she shares her insights on navigating menopause, especially from the perspective of women in engineering. Autism Diagnosis Journeys Webinar with the Neurodiversity Network with Martin Griffin (CEng, FIMMM, CGeol, EurGeol, FGS, FIEDP). 📅 Date: 16th October 🕰 Time: 5:00 PM Join us as we dive into the world of neurodiversity, discussing the autism diagnosis journey and its impact on professionals in engineering. The discussion will aim to raise awareness, foster understanding, and encourage meaningful dialogue around the varied paths to diagnosis. Black History Month Webinar: "Reclaiming Narratives" with REACH's Co-Chairs, Tyler Simmonite and Ash Kala. 📅 Date: 30th October 🕰 Time: 5:00 PM In partnership with the REACH network, we’ll dive deep into the stories that often go untold, highlight the contributions of Black professionals in engineering and beyond, and explore how we can collectively reclaim and reshape these important narratives. Our identities are multifaceted, and each aspect plays a crucial role in shaping our journey. We invite you to join these events to gain insights, share experiences, and connect with others who are passionate about creating a more inclusive engineering community. #BlackHistoryMonth #Intersectionality #InterEngineering #Neurodiversity #REACH #InclusiveEngineering #ReclaimingNarratives #Menopause

Connecting, informing and empowering LGBTQ+ Engineers and supporters
About us
At InterEngineering, we connect, inform and empower lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer + (LGBTQ+) engineers and supporters. We invite engineers of all backgrounds as well as those working in engineering to join us in helping improve diversity and inclusion across the sector. We achieve this by: Connecting Providing networking opportunities for LGBT engineers in different companies to meet, discuss improvements the profession could be making and share best practice for growing company support. Informing Sharing and collecting experiences and resources of LGBT people working in engineering and promoting wider initiatives within the industry to help promote diversity and inclusion. Empowering Running events to help LGBT engineers create their own company networks to promote and support diversity in their workplaces, and providing a forum for smaller enterprises.

And just like that, the two weeks of technical training for the EqualEngineers Engineering Skills Bootcamp for Surrey County Council is over! It has been an intense couple of weeks for our learners, who have dedicated themselves full-time to the course and have covered so much content. I'm incredibly proud that this diverse and talented group has gone from knowing very little about engineering to understanding mechanical and electrical systems, designing and simulating fluid power systems, practising project management and quality control techniques, running through the engineering design process, designing their own components in CAD, and planning out Condition Monitoring and Preventative Maintenance systems, alongside many other things, all in this short period of time. Our next cohort starts in Guildford on Monday. If you'd like to be involved in our Skills Bootcamps as a learner or as an employer, then feel free to get in touch with me at [email protected].

Happy Manchester Pride to all our InterEngineering members! Patrick and others from InterEngineering joined the wonderful team at Building Equality for the parade today, as well as the pre parade breakfast at Hays, and the post parade party at The Waldorf pub. It was a brilliant day with around 100 engineers, showcasing just how diverse and inclusive the Engineering industry can be. We also made the Manchester Evening News!

Happy Friday! Next Wednesday, our Co-chairs, Patrick and Fiona, will be hosting the next episode of our Re-engineering Pride Webinar Series. For this month's episode we're bringing you a "Back to School" special, focusing on raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community within STEM education. As the new academic year approaches, we want to address the challenges that LGBTQ+ students, educators, and professionals encounter in educational settings relating to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and we will be joined by a panel of incredible speakers, including: 🌈 Kat C., the Education Coordinator for EqualEngineers. Kat spent 11 years as a Physics Teacher, and is an IOPS Girls into Physics and Engineering Organiser, steering initiatives to inspire girls across Scotland to pursue careers in physics and engineering. 🌈David Murray Whitham, a Senior Building Surveyor for WSP in the UK. David spent 18 years in Secondary Education working at various levels including as the Head of Faculty for Technologies in a Secondary School in Manchester. David managed a faculty comprised of a number of multi-disciplinary departments across technology and engineering before retraining as a Building Surveyor, and is also a STEM Ambassador. 🌈Avery Cunningham, EDI Business Partner at Birmingham City University. Avery is also the Director of International Relations and Strategy at Out in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (oSTEM), and the founder of STEM, LGBTQ & You, a daylong conference on LGBTQ+ experiences in STEM. 🌈Dr Clara Michelle Barker, a Daphne Jackson Research Fellow (sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry) in the Centre for Applied Superconductivity at the University of Oxford, Dean for E&D at Linacre College, Oxford, and the Institute of Physics’ Representative to Council for Inclusion and Diversity. Clara also runs a youth group for LGBTI+ young people and was previously the Chair of the Oxford University LGBT+ Advisory Group, alongside sitting on various EDI panels (such as The Royal Society and the Girls School Association) and gives numerous talks on inclusivity in STEM and academia.
