Today our leadership is officially evolving! We are thrilled for Bella Landymore and Sarah Teacher to take over as Co-CEOs and drive our ambitious five-year strategy to mobilise £1 trillion of impact capital for investments benefiting people and planet.    Both Bella and Sarah bring deep understanding, experience, energy, and expertise to the role and are excited to lead the Institute’s work and its excellent team.    Bella’s career has spanned the private, public, and social sectors. She played a crucial role in establishing the Institute in 2019 and joined us from the UK government’s Inclusive Economy Unit. Prior to that, Bella worked at both UBS Investment Bank and in the charity sector. Bella has a particular interest in how policy and regulation can help scale and improve the impact investing market and has led our programme work over the last five years.    Sarah’s career has focused on the intersection of social impact, sustainability, and private capital. She joined the Institute in 2021 from Lendlease Europe. Before that Sarah worked at Sancroft International, and the Institute for Philanthropy. She serves as the Chair of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors Europe. Sarah has initiated and shaped the Institute’s work with endowments and family offices and has led our funder relationships over the last three years.    Kieron Boyle is officially stepping into his new role as Chair of the Institute in which he will continue to provide strategic guidance to the Institute.    After nine years of exceptional leadership our inaugural Chair Dame Elizabeth Corley is becoming Chair Emerita. In her new role, Elizabeth will continue to represent the Institute externally and provide advice to its leadership as a board member.    Together, Bella, Sarah, Kieron and Elizabeth will drive forward the Institute’s vision of capital markets that drive a fairer, greener, and more resilient future.    Our ambitious goals include:    - Double the UK impact investing market from £78.8 billion to £160 billion.  - Over the next five years, the Institute aims to see £500 billion allocated through a just transition lens, which advances climate and environmental action, improves socio-economic distribution and equity, and increases community voice.   - As part of our newly formed Challenge Lab, we will work with investors to mobilise £3 billion for fresh, real-world solutions in areas such as preventative health and place-based impact investing that drive inclusive growth.     We're excited about this new chapter and remain committed to accelerating impact investing in the UK and worldwide as well as growing the team of passionate individuals who are crucial in making it all happen.     #ImpactInvesting #LeadershipTransition #SustainableFinance

Last week we were delighted to host 80 people at our latest Place Coalition event in partnership with Southampton City Council and Southampton Forward, and hosted at Southampton Football Club. Our Place Coalition is a national forum to support the growth of place-based impact investing, sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.    The discussions at the event highlighted: ➡ the role of the impact economy in addressing the UK's deep rooted challenges, by mobilising capital to respond to climate change, advancing health equity, and driving culture-led regeneration ➡ the role of private investment in responding to the Government's five missions, with a strong emphasis on inclusive growth ➡ the need for long term time horizons and patient capital to deliver long term transformation of places   A major takeaway from the event was the significant role that public, private, and philanthropic finance can play in working together to meet the Government's five missions, and address the specific needs of our places, with Southampton providing transferable lessons for a national approach.   The event underscored the importance of collaboration among investors - including pension funds, asset managers, and social investors - alongside local authorities, anchor institutions, and communities. By working together, we can unlock substantial investment to revitalise areas across the UK, fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economy.     This is exemplified by Southampton’s master planning and regeneration work and the significant opportunities to invest in changing the fortunes of the city, particularly around housing, employment, infrastructure, health, and culture to create a thriving, sustainable place. On 14 November you can hear more from Southampton City Council’s Leader and Executive Director for Growth & Prosperity, about the development opportunities coming up in the city, at the South Coast CPS Property Conference in Southampton. If you would like to join, register here: https://lnkd.in/erfknwhz   We are very excited about the momentum generated at this event last week and look forward to continuing these important conversations. Together, we can turn opportunities into action, supporting growth and transformation in the places that need it most. #ImpactInvesting #PlaceBasedInvesting #PatientCapital #InclusiveGrowth #SustainableEconomy #HealthEquity #SocialImpact #Southampton #CultureLedChange

  • Today we are releasing our second report on the size of UK impact investing market, revealing substantial growth and increasing sophistication in commercial investments that target positive social and environmental outcomes, including investments in healthcare, renewable energy, affordable housing and much more.  Key highlights from our research:  ✅ The UK impact investing market has grown to £76.8 billion in assets under management (AUM) as of end-2023.   ✅ This growth marks a £19.3 billion increase from the Institute's inaugural report and represents a 10.1% compound annual growth rate from the beginning of 2021 until the end of 2023.   ✅ Impact investing growth has significantly outpaced the broader UK asset management sector, which had an annual growth rate between -2% and 0% over the same period.   ✅ The UK impact investing market accounts for ca. 8% of the global impact investing market.  The report, produced through an extensive market survey and engagement with over 100 key market actors, thought leaders, and policymakers, highlights that this growth occurred despite challenging market conditions. This resilience indicates the increasing importance and maturity of impact investing in the UK financial landscape.  The report also notes significant trends in the market:   ✅ Private equity attracts the highest proportion of impact capital at 45%, followed by real assets at 28% and private debt at 11%.   ✅ There is increasing demand for impact investing among institutional investors, with the UK's Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) making more local impact allocations.   ✅ Two-thirds of respondents plan to increase or sustain their allocation of capital towards impactful companies, projects, and assets in the UK in the next five years. We call on asset owners, asset managers, investment advisors, and the UK government to seize the opportunities presented by this growing market and emphasises the crucial role of collaboration between private capital and government in mobilising resources at scale to address pressing social, environmental, and economic challenges and transforms lives across the UK and beyond.  Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/emakwfJK This research was supported by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. #impactinvesting #sustainablefinance #UKfinance #ESGinvesting
