IC-ENC are delighted to participate for the second time in the IHO Empowering Women in Hydrography initiative, with a project focused on eLearning. Kimberly Mason (BSH, Germany), our EWH successful candidate, has joined IC-ENC at our Headquarters in Taunton, UK, to lead on this continuous project as part of Production Support. Kimberly will be creating bitesize eLearning content on S-100 related topics to be uploaded to the IC-ENC Learning Management System (LMS). So far, Kimberly has analysed the results from the eLearning survey sent to Members in August and has begun working with a range of stakeholders, including the UKHO Digital Learning Advisor to discuss ideas and gain insight into best practices when creating eLearning content. Kimberly will now continue work with the eLearning creator Articulate 360. We are very excited to be working with Kimberly to develop her leadership and project skills as part of this EWH secondment and look forward to sharing her final eLearning modules. These modules will support Members in building their knowledge on S-100 topics. Working together to assure navigational safety.
About us
The International Centre for ENCs (IC-ENC) represents many national hydrographic offices who wish to offer a centralised and consistent database of electronic navigational charts (ENCs) to the marketplace. Operating as a regional ENC co-ordination centre (RENC), IC-ENC's mission is to deliver to its member HOs a cost-effective service designed to meet the needs of the mariner and enhance safety at sea by providing high quality, fit-for-purpose ENCs that comply with IMO and IHO standards. IC-ENC validates ENC data for consistency, with the S-57 data transfer standard, and compiles a consistent ENC database which is then made widely available. IC-ENC aims to provide services, at a low cost, to national hydrographic offices that ensure their ENCs are compliant to the international standards, consistent across the global dataset and readily available for use so that shipping can navigate safely, efficiently, and confidently, whilst ensuring other maritime users are using the same approved data. The IC-ENC headquarters is hosted here in the UK, and there are three other IC-ENC regional offices based in Australia, Brazil and United States, which contribute to the quality assurance of the ENCs. IC-ENC has a budget and governance structure which means that each of the member HOs has a voice in how IC-ENC is run and the services it provides.

IC-ENC Distribution Manager, Jake Sharland attended SMM Hamburg this week. A perfect opportunity to meet with delegates of the IC-ENC Membership, plus representatives from our Value Added Resellers and Distribution Partners. He took a chance to rest his legs by attending several interesting seminars, to ensure IC-ENC keep a finger on the pulse of both the present and future market developments. #SMMHamburg2024 #SMM2024 #SMMFair #marketinsights #alwayslearning #networking #globalpartnerships #marketdevelopments

IC-ENC are pleased to announce an exciting collaboration with Industry partners, Teledyne Geospatial (CARIS) and Esri, that allows Members to attend a series of user conferences, with the addition of targeted bespoke training. These events will enable Members to meet with software experts and peers from other Hydrographic Offices to share good practice and partake in hands on exercises using the software tools via the new IC-ENC Learning Cloud. The first conference is set to take place on 1st - 4th October in Eindhoven, Netherlands, with a further three events scheduled for Chile (December 2024), Asia (January 2025) and an Esri conference in Washington DC (February 2024). Members can register their attendance at these conferences by reviewing Technical Circular Letter 09, or by contacting the IC-ENC team. #collaboration #innovation #hydrography #knowledgesharing #sharedexperiences #learningtogether

Martha Bakry (IC-ENC Data Validator) is currently taking part in the second IC-ENC Validator Exhange in the Australian Hydrographic Office. During week one, Martha was introduced to the full Validation Service of Australian Cells. The overview gave insight into registration of source from the regional client to initial installation in type approved ECDIS. This was then followed by testing in validation software, analysis of errors, horizontal and vertical consistency checks in relation to adjacent and overlapping cells across usage bands. Martha then witnessed the use of M_CSCL and CSCALE, overlaps/gaps and holes in the catalogue, SCAMIN assignment and the display and performance of ENCs in ECDIS. There were also discussions regarding safety, mariner expectations of the products and the promotion of consistency in a seamless world wide dataset. We look forward to hearing about Martha's experiences during week two! IC-ENC launch the first Member to Member secondment with the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office. Captain Hassan EL-Halawany, Head of Hydrographic Division in the Egyptian Navy Hydrographic Department, spent 3 weeks with the UKHO Business Assurance team where he focused on Quality Management Systems whilst also participating in an ISO9001 Internal Auditor Training Course, which resulted in gaining a formal accredited qualification as an internal auditor. "The knowledge and skills I've received are crucial not only for my personal development, but also for taking ENHD's quality management initiatives forward." Thank you to Hassan and Matt Millard (UKHO Quality & Audit Manager & Secondment Lead) for your pivotal roles in shaping the new scheme, which lays the foundation for future opportunities. On 1st August 2024 IC-ENC released the 13,000th ENC into our folio. The 13,000th ENC was CL5MA770. Congratulations to Servicio Hidrográfico y Oceanográfico de la Armada (SHOA) on having the 13,000th ENCs in the folio. In collaboration between SHOA and the Argentinian Servicio de Hidrografia Naval, this ENC along with the adjoining new coverage, AR50477E, and overlying band 4 ENCs produced by these members, enhances the ENC coverage of the critical Beagle Channel to provide save navigation between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Reaching this milestone continues to demonstrate the rapid growth in IC-ENCs ENCs folio and ongoing support IC-ENC provides to each member to enhance the global ENC folio. #growth #globalpartnership #globalgrowth #solas #milestone #hydrography #safetyatsea #navigation

IC-ENC reposted this
365 days later, I have completed my year-long internship at the UK Hydrographic Office. I had the pleasure of working within the department of IC-ENC and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. This was an amazing opportunity to work within the Hydrography sector and develop skills in Hydrographic Cartography and GIS. Some highlights of my year include: - Meeting a range of specialists from a multitude of different Hydrographic Offices from all over the world. - Hosting and helping train our regional offices for a 2-week-long training course in November. - Multiple weekend trips to Dartmoor and the beach with other interns throughout the year. - A 2-week-long Data Validator exchange to our regional office in Washington DC and the chance to work with the Marine Chart Division in NOAA. This included visiting the NOAA Centre for Weather and Climate Prediction and learning about how their Environmental Modelling Centre produces and maintains weather prediction models. You can read more about this here: https://lnkd.in/e_JcngHu I would like to give special thanks to Aaran Champion CMgr MCMI for helping make my internship as positive and fulfilling as possible and Alex Wallage for helping train and develop my understanding of QGIS and data manipulation. I am looking forward to starting my final year at Exeter University in September and utilising the skills I have learnt over the last year.
