Inyanga Marine Energy Group has secured an additional 10 MW allocation for its groundbreaking tidal energy project at Anglesey, Wales. This latest award, through the UK government's Contracts for Difference (CfD), doubles the project's capacity to 20 MW, marking a major milestone in the company's mission to harness the power of the tides. At the heart of Inyanga's success is HydroWing technology. This system offers a comprehensive solution to the challenges of offshore energy: - Predictable Power: Unlike solar or wind, tidal energy is highly predictable, providing a reliable source of clean electricity. - High Energy Density: Tidal power boasts an energy density 800 times greater than wind, offering immense potential for efficient energy generation. - Low-Cost and Reliable: HydroWing delivers cost-effective, clean electricity to local power grids with remarkable consistency. - Innovative Design: The multi-rotor subsea device features turbines mounted in a wing-like structure on a modular seabed framework, optimising energy capture. The Morlais project, home to Inyanga's HydroWing, is poised for leadership in tidal energy: - Europe's largest consented tidal energy development (potential 240 MW capacity) - Ready infrastructure: grid connection and onshore substations in place - £50 million potential investment, boosting the local economy With turbine deployment expected in 2026, Morlais and HydroWing are set to showcase tidal power's role in our sustainable energy future. Are you a startup sitting on valuable process technology? Learn how to turn your IP into revenue without heavy capital investment – 1. Emphasise Human Capital: Licensing is relationship-driven. Effective project management, training, and support are crucial for successful technology transfer. 2. Develop a Comprehensive PDP: A well-managed Process Design Package (PDP) should be continuously updated to stay competitive and ensure operational success. 3. Implement Value-Based Pricing: Share the estimated benefit of the new technology with the licensee through transparent upfront fees and royalties. 4. Mitigate High Capital Risks: Use strategies like close plant support, royalty-based fees, licensor equity stakes, and warranties to ease the risk for the first licensee. 5. Leverage Mature Technology: Partner with preferred contractors to increase reach and integration when your technology matures. 6. Integrate Licensing with Equipment Deals: If specialist equipment is key, include the licence as part of the equipment deal for seamless implementation.
