Great Yarmouth Borough Council has welcomed today's announcement that plans for up to £20m of new funding for the town would be going ahead. Read the full story here >>> https://ow.ly/e45350TXfxz The previous Government revealed last year that, under its Long-Term Plan for Towns programme, Great Yarmouth had been selected as one of 75 places across the country to receive support. Following wide engagement with the community and stakeholders, the Council provided detailed proposals on how the money would be spent over the next ten years as part of an ambitious vision for Great Yarmouth and its residents. However, following the general election, the new Government put the funding on hold. That uncertainty has now been lifted with the news the programme will be retained as part of a new regeneration programme. #GreatYarmouth #GYBC #GYBCLongTermPlan

About us
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is the local district authority for the borough of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, UK. The council serves a population of approaching 100,000 residents, living in Great Yarmouth, Gorleston-on-Sea and surrounding villages. Please see the borough council’s website for information about its services. Norfolk County Council is the other main council serving the borough. The borough is a major UK coastal resort, catering for 5.6 million day trips and 4.1 million staying nights each year, with visitors bringing more than £591 million into the local economy annually. It has also been England’s offshore energy sector capital since 1965, with an outer harbour, enterprise zone, skilled workforce, sizeable supply chain, and prospects of sharing in significant future investment in offshore windfarms and gas platform decommissioning. The council’s six main priorities are: • Economic growth • Housing • Neighbourhoods, communities and the environment • Tourism, culture and heritage • Great Yarmouth town centre • Transport and infrastructure Our ambition is for Great Yarmouth to be a fast-growing coastal “Enterprise Town”. Efforts will be focused on creating the conditions to ensure the borough and its residents are best placed to benefit from new jobs and investment, including from the next generation of offshore energy developments. The community of Great Yarmouth has been self-governing since the Charter of King John in 1209. The Council in its current form came into existence in 1974.

This morning's service was truly lovely. Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Revd Simon Ward, members of the council, representatives from the Royal British Legion, and pupils from St Nicholas Priory Primary School all placed crosses in the ground to honour their loved ones and those who sacrificed their lives for our country. Please remember that our Remembrance Sunday service will take place this weekend at 11 a.m. in St. George's Park.

Are you planning to celebrate Bonfire Night this evening? Here are some important safety tips to keep in mind: 👍 Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby. 👍 Light fireworks at arm's length using a taper. 👍 Light sparklers one at a time, keeping them at arm's length, and never give sparklers to children under five. 👍 If a fire breaks out, move away and stay away, then call 999 for help. Stay safe and enjoy the celebrations! 🎇

Unfortunately, we have noticed an increase in fly-tipping across the Borough 😔 Dealing with fly-tipping is time consuming and drains resources which could be used for much better things. Fines start from £200 but can increase to much much more. If you see any fly-tipped waste or catch someone in the act please report it here - https://ow.ly/c8O850U03Qj Let's work together to keep our streets clean 💚

November is a time for remembrance and reflection. This Wednesday, members of the public are invited to attend a Blessing of the Crosses ceremony at the Cenotaph in St. George's Park, Great Yarmouth. The ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m., will be led by Revd Canon Simon Ward. It provides an opportunity for attendees to place crosses, each marked with the names of servicemen and women who lost their lives during the war, in the memorial area. Help the James Paget improve the way it engages and involves local people when it changes services, or develops new ways of working. To better understand what matters to our community and how the hospital can effectively engage with people locally, they have created a survey. This will help ensure that everyone has a voice and the opportunity to participate. You can access the survey here: https://lnkd.in/eCgz2Q3g Please note that the survey will be open until 5 PM on Friday, November 29th.
