I am incredibly grateful and proud to have curated and produced content at Grand Designs Live Birmingham for the 8th year! The connections I make and the relationships that develop are incredibly rewarding and a true pleasure to witness. This year, Grand Designs celebrated 25 years of the television series, and we marked this incredible milestone by welcoming 16 contributors from the archives. Alongside our loyal resident experts, we invited fantastic new experts and collaborated with amazing brands, wonderful charities and influencers to join the 5 day party 🎉 and it was a banger! A huge thank you to Leah Eva for your continued trust and support, and giving me the opportunity to continue what I love doing! Behind the scenes at Grand Designs Live... The show was well attended on Saturday, with a busy 'Ask An Expert' stand where visitors had the opportunity to book time with Leigh Holt from etc Design ltd. Among the enquiries were a number from new homeowners. Here are some of the questions Leigh answered: ✍️How to select an architect ⌚When should the design process start 📃Is permitted development or planning approval required 🏠He also advised on construction methods, timescales and likely budget required The projects discussed were varied and interesting, covering everything from single and two-storey extensions to new builds and historically listed homes in Green Belt and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). Leigh was also amazed at the distance some visitors had travelled. He took queries from homeowners, not just in Birmingham and the surrounding area, but also Pembrokeshire, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Leamington Spa, central London, Worcester, Southampton and Hampshire. He even spoke to a housing developer from Senegal, West Africa! As well as advice, Leigh had the pleasure of sharing some of our completed projects and what a successful project process looks like. A weekend well spent at Grand Designs Portfolio Live 2024 at the NEC Birmingham. A few interior design-led highlights included: ❖ The ufurnish.com talk on the power of Feng Shui to promote prosperity, strengthen relationships and create abundance in our environments. ❖ The 'Pimp Up My Home' Installation by Peter Morris Architects: A beautifully styled interior and sculptural exterior showcasing beauty and functional living together. Lovely colour palettes curated by COAT Paints. ❖ The Love Frankie Stand: The textural fabrics, textures, handmade lampshades and quirky decor captured a refreshing essence of design-led creativity. Seeing these interior-focused moments in the wider context of architecture and outdoor design was a great reminder of how closely connected these elements are in the world of design. Looking forward to Decorex in London this week for even more inspiration!
