We have some news to share! Our stellar team has recently been joined by Thomas McWilliam (University of York) and Maren Vieluf (Universität Innsbruck) as new Deputy Editors. Huge congratulations to both! Sadly, however, we also have to announce that Mary Keogh & Katharine Petrich have left the GPNG editorial team. Global Policy: Next Generation
Book and Periodical Publishing
GPNG is a multi-disciplinary, peer-reviewed annual issue from the journal Global Policy.
About us
Global Policy: Next Generation is a new annual issue from the journal Global Policy. This multi-disciplinary, peer-reviewed journal provides a platform for PhD students and early career researchers to publish research on-par with the most rigorous of academic journals. We seek out the next generation of ground-breaking research in global policymaking and broaden horizons in terms of both content and authorship. We wish to publish work that pushes beyond the predominant Western-centric viewpoints in global policy research and diversify the scope of research to include both macro and micro levels of global governance. In doing so, GPNG lays down a challenge to early-career researchers around the globe to meet this need for innovative and transformational research ideas that have both theoretical value and practical impact with policymakers. Global Policy: Next Generation goes beyond the remit of producing a peer-reviewed academic journal. It aims to establish a platform for early-career researchers to engage with the wider community of both academia and policymaking by promoting their research through a variety of media. GPNG offers early-career researchers the opportunity to publish opinion pieces on their current research, areas of expertise, or issues that they feel need further analysis and exploration. This is complemented by podcast interviews with academics at all stages of the research process, from those just starting projects to those presenting final products and published works, all sharing ideas and pushing boundaries in terms of how we engage with academic research.

My article "The 'China Threat': Stereotypical Representations in the US Competition with China" has finally been published in the #InternationalPolitics - Palgrave Macmillan in Open Access Format. 👉 Link here: https://rdcu.be/dzOBX The article explores how the narrative of the #China Threat has also been influenced by stereotypical representations rooted in academic thinking and shared mainly at the level of the #US government, especially in the years of the #Trump administration. This is hopefully an important contribution, especially now that US-China competition is intense and the spectre of Trump's re-election is just around the corner. The return of aggressive and undiplomatic rhetoric could have a strong negative impact on #USChina relations and on the stability and security of the international order. This should invite us scholars to reflect further on how our theorising might be found appealing by policymakers to legitimise their actions, especially in an era of uncertainty such as the one we are living in. My gratitude goes to Matteo Dian, Silvia Menegazzi, Ph.D., Giuseppe Gabusi and the anonymous reviewers for their precious comments on earlier versions of this article. Feedback, comments and criticism are all more than welcome! Luiss Guido Carli University REMIT Research
