Environmental Civil Engineering students at Glasgow Caledonian University complete bridge construction with ConStructEd Scotland After 5 challenging days on site, the students successfully completed the construction of the 11m footbridge. Some great effort and collaboration amongst the students and excellent input from our partners providing first class learning opportunities for all. Many thanks again ConStructEd Scotland, GEORGE LESLIE, Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon, Richter and David Sibbald

Penultimate Day at ConStructEd Scotland for the Glasgow Caledonian University students being supported by GEORGE LESLIE. A big day with lots of pressure on the team as they worked towards the bridge deck pour at the end of the day. They ensured that they had a risk assessment and method statement in place along with a walkway allowing them to work at height over the water safely using harnesses. A great effort and kind weather ensured a very successful concrete pour was completed on time within their daily schedules.

ConStructEd Scotland day 3 for the students from Glasgow Caledonian University and a first for the site as the students revealed the image of an iconic movie star created in their bridge abutment…can you see who it is? Supported by our collaborating industrial partners GEORGE LESLIE the project is being delivered safely, on time and to the Clients specification. An effective lift plan was developed and delivered successfully for the four lifts, but the students to ensure the progress of the project could be maintained. Another busy day all round saw identification of defects and remediation plans actioned whilst the ComFlor composite decking was being assembled

We are all very keen to promote our new low carbon solutions and the CO2 reductions we are making. However, what about sharing the lessons we have learned to achieve these great savings? The use of Hussh Pods has become the norm for George Leslie on our sites. Theses pods provide power to our temporary site set ups. When a Hussh Pod is working correctly, the carbon savings are significant – we have no doubt in this at all. Currently we have 21 Hussh Pods in use across our sites. In the last week, we have saved circa 36 tons of carbon. That’s the equivalent emissions from a petrol car being driven 165,000 km. Collaboratively working to maximise carbon savings with our Hussh Pod provider SLD we can: - Monitor the battery pod dashboard to ensure they are operating efficiently - Educate our site teams through supplier presentations - Don’t mess with the pod set up or controls - Challenge set ups where battery efficiency is low - Work closely with our provider to resolve issues, enhance efficiency Lets share learnings to help achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions: "Alone we can achieve a little, together we can achieve a lot." #sustainability #construction #civilengineering

We are delighted to announce that our recent four-month test with SLD of the Erica Board has yielded impressive results in reducing carbon emissions. This innovative low-carbon temporary power solution optimises energy consumption by providing power only when needed. The Erica Board's adaptability allows for easy retrofitting to any construction site. During the test period, we successfully reduced carbon emissions by an additional 10.5 tonnes. This achievement is equivalent to eliminating the carbon footprint of approximately five return flights between Glasgow and New York. We extend our thanks to the Roughrigg Reservoir team for their early adoption and implementation of the Erica Board. Roughrigg's Sub Agent, Jordon Matheson said "It’s great to see the interesting new ideas that the construction industry is implementing to reduce the carbon produced on sites. At Roughrigg Reservoir, we used the Erica board for our site welfare, controlling the welfare power usage using timers. We had the Erica board set up to keep the drying room off during the day and on, all through the night to dry the wet PPE - which seems to be working great." With the Roughrigg project nearing completion, our sustainability team is actively exploring opportunities to implement and monitor the Erica Board on additional sites throughout the winter months." #civilengineering #sustainability #construction

We're sure you know all about NATCEM 35's underwater uses, but it's rare we get to SEE them! That's changed, thanks to GEORGE LESLIE who have brought us a video of a diver observing a NATCEM 35 use in Scalasaig!
