Are LGBTQIA+ stories too risky to be seen on screen? As excited as many of us were (myself included) about Inside Out 2, the recent controversy over Pixar reportedly making the film “less gay” leaves a troubling mark. The more I think about this, the more I realise that being inclusive is not actually a “complicated” policy. It’s not about ticking boxes or appeasing critics—it’s about showing the world as it truly is. LGBTQIA+ people, our relationships, and our families are real. They exist in everyday life. So what exactly is there to “tone down”? Representation can be life-changing for young people—especially LGBTQIA+ youth who are able to see themselves reflected on screen and feel like they belong in the world. True representation means telling stories that don’t treat identities as a “risk” but as a normal, celebrated part of the human experience. In my latest article for GAY TIMES , I dive into what this controversy means for the future of LGBTQIA+ storytelling in mainstream media, and why we need to keep pushing for more inclusive and real representation. A massive thank you to Just Like Us for giving me the chance to write this piece! https://lnkd.in/e3xfynxX #LGBTQIA #RepresentationMatters #Inclusion

As we swiftly head into the winter months, I wanted to reflect on a few of the fantastic magazine covers we released over the summer months at GAY TIMES. It is a pleasure to share these simply *iconic* shoots across five social media platforms to over 4 million followers. From capturing on-set BTS content to managing the cover rollout and liaising with talent's PR. Launching a magazine cover to such a huge audience can be daunting, but the response is always so rewarding. Our October cover, starring Heartstopper’s Joe Locke and Jenny Walser, saw staggering numbers. It received over 280,000 likes and 2.3 million views - one of the highest engagements in GAY TIMES’ history! Huge congratulations to our fantastic editorial team who raise the bar every month, and as always Jack Rowe for excellent cover designs. Head to @gaytimes for all social coverage.

On the November cover of GAY TIMES Magazine, we present Romy as photographed by her wife Vic Lentaigne. The musician reflects on her queer clubbing origins and the refreshing boost in sapphic representation wrought by this summer’s so-called ‘lesbian renaissance’. Music remains a major focus throughout the issue. Isobel Van Dyke speaks to bisexual breakout music star Doechii ahead of her tour, whilst E.R. Pulgar speaks to Latin Core favourite MJ Nebreda about non-binary identity and queering El Movimiento. The latest issue also explores Polyamory, gay and bisexual male sexuality on screen, and Sukeban: London’s first all-female Japanese wrestling team. Heartstopper stars Joe Locke and Jenny Walser grace the new issue of GAY TIMES Magazine 📸 The duo go deep on the third season of Heartstopper and discuss how their characters develop and support one another in the forthcoming episodes. We also explore how Heartstopper can help us tap into the importance of chosen family, why Sex In The City’s Charlotte York deserves her own latent queer awakening and the intertwined histories of porn and gaming. R&B star Kehlani and actor-musician Ben Platt cover the new issue of GAY TIMES Magazine 📸 This August issue falls in the midst of the Paris 2024 Olympics, and though we’re all passionate about queer and trans inclusion in sport, and will fight any bans which try to suppress trans athletes’ right to participate, the only “games” mentioned in this issue is the 1989 video game Caper in the Castro. Instead of sports, you’ll find singer-songwriter Kehlani open up about finding gender euphoria on and off the stage, defiantly speaking her mind and her full-throttle new album, CRASH. Our second cover star is Ben Platt. The Broadway legend discusses his queer love album Honeymind, the status of his “chaotic” Netflix series The Politician and how he got to “kiss Superman”.
