🌿 Celebrating 30 years of biodiversity! 🌿 For the last three decades, the Gatwick Greenspace Partnership (GGP) has rallied thousands of volunteers, schools, and community groups to enhance and protect our local biodiversity. Thanks to this collaboration, rare species like the nightingale and great crested newt have returned to Gatwick’s grounds. Since 1994, GGP has promoted biodiversity and environmental education, supported by London Gatwick’s funding. Volunteers from our airport have played a crucial role in projects like installing dormouse boxes and constructing sustainable pathways. 30 years worth of environmental protection won't fit into one post, so read more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gRy4KzBD Here’s to many more years of protecting and enhancing our natural environment together 🤝🌲

It has been a pleasure to be the London Gatwick Expert for the 2024 VINCI Environment Awards and coordinate 3 entries that, of 69 submissions across the UK, all shortlisted to the top 15 to be celebrated yesterday. And to top it all off, during yesterday’s regional ceremony, we got a win!    We celebrated our innovative approach to runway resurfacing, which avoided 6000 tonnes of wasted asphalt and a consequent 2000 tonnes embodied CO2e. A huge congratulations to Vlad Mihovilovic, Peter McCarthy and the whole team.    Also recognised were our Biodiversity Action Plan, which has led to an increase in butterflies, reptiles and bats in our biodiversity areas (Darcey Haldar) and our innovative approach to improving access safety through reusing asphalt plannings, which prevented 350 tonnes of landfill and avoided 2.7 tonnes of CO2e (Chris Boyle FCIHT)    It was wonderful to have Pierre Anjolras and Isabelle Spiegel celebrating our nominees and demonstrating the VINCI commitment to “local solutions, global impact”.    The Vinci Environment Awards celebrate and empower real projects from across the network, and I am very proud of all of the continuous efforts across London Gatwick to achieve our Decade of Change sustainability goals.   A huge congratulations to all of the nominees and winners, it has been great fun participating in the Expert Panel for the UK and I look forward to supporting the Global tranche of the awards.   Thank you and well done to Tom Jones and Olivia Wilkes for a great regional awards! 🆕 We're investing £600,000 in helping to improve local bus services this year. From tomorrow, and from London Gatwick funding, the 420 bus route will be an all-day service connecting the airport to Sutton and Crawley, and enhancing daily services to Redhill, Reigate and East Surrey Hospital. This is part of our wider plan to make sustainable travel to the airport easily available, and improve services for local communities. We know that everyone's accessibility needs are different, and an airport like London Gatwick can be a challenging place to navigate. That's why we have partnered with AccessAble to launch a series of bespoke Detailed Access Guides, which will help passengers make decisions about what assistance they may require when travelling through the airport. The guides cover 30 different areas of London Gatwick, and provide a range of information from flooring types and step-free access, to walking distances and noise levels. Chief Executive Officer at London Gatwick ✈️

It’s great to see more passengers are choosing to travel through London Gatwick, as we continue to experience one of our best summers yet. In fact, 𝟭𝟵.𝟵 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 travelled through the airport in the first half of this year. This represents a 7.7% increase on 2023, as published in our 2024 interim results announced yesterday. It’s important that we provide a reliable and enjoyable experience for our passengers and I am incredibly proud of our teams who have helped us meet 100% of our agreed service metrics. This includes 97% of passengers getting through security in less than five minutes or less, and working in partnership with our special assistance provider, Wilson James, meeting all requirements to help passengers needing assistance. There has also been strong collaboration with our airlines and our partners across the airport, to support passengers at every step of the airport experience.   Our teams have also worked hard to support our commitment to grow sustainably . Our recent announcement of the London Gatwick Hydrogen Hub with Airbus Aircraft, easyJet and Air Products marks a significant step towards zero carbon flights. I’m also proud of innovative initiatives like our GRIDSERVE electric vehicle charging facility and replacing diesel with hydrotreated vegetable oil, driving us closer towards our ambition of net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030. As the demand for travel continues to increase, and our network of short and long-haul routes continue to develop, we will all build on our vision to be the airport for everyone, whatever your journey.
