Moving Beyond the Committed: Reimagining Golf’s Growth Potential 📈 The golf industry has long relied on committed players for revenue and growth, but this focus may be limiting our potential. Q: Is there a fear that focusing on casual golfers will turn off committed players? Comment below. By turning our attention to casual golfers and redefining what it means to be a golfer, we can open up new avenues for growth. It’s not just about more rounds played—it’s about cultivating a broader and more inclusive golf community. This is so true: we have a responsibility as golf coaches and as clubs to change peoples perception that golf comes in only one form. So many clubs and golfers are resistant to change and they will get left behind as our world evolves and people demand shorter formats. Offering shorter versions of the game and encouraging participation and enjoyment must be at the top of priorities. From enjoyment grows a love for the game and eventually a form of membership. Shorter more regular visits will bring sales in F&B and help to grow the business/club. Chasing membership numbers often means chasing that fixed traditional idea of golf as 18 holes, unless clubs begin to offer bitesized options (social, academy and off peak memberships). But first we must make it readily accepted that golf comes in whichever version you need it to come in to meet your needs. More coaches need to ask their pupils what they want golf to be - what do they need it to be for them. How does that fit into their lifestyles and how do they see it grow? More people in the golf industry need to say it’s ok just to play 6 or 9 holes. It’s ok to just hit on the range or in the simulators. You’re welcome within golf whichever way you choose to play it. This is YOUR game and you can own it. You are a golfer. Empower people to take ownership of their game. My advice is ask questions and customise each golf experience. None of us are the same, so why should we all play the same game for the same reasons. Let’s explore individuality and grow this game together.
Challenging the fixed mindset in golf Golf is often seen as a skill you either have or you don’t. This fixed mindset can deter casual players from pursuing the game long-term. But what if we could change that perception? Encouraging a growth mindset could make the game more accessible, creating a culture that values learning over innate talent. This shift opens the door to new players who see golf as a journey, not a test of inherent skill. https://lnkd.in/e_RH-xcQ #MindsetShift #GolfCulture #GrowthThroughLearning Q: Golf instructors and front-of-house staff are instrumental in reflecting a culture of belonging for new golfers. That’s a big responsibility. Any suggestions for strategy? 📸: Anthony Wade on Unsplash

Peripheral players: An untapped golf market Casual golfers often enjoy the game but don’t identify as golfers. Could this lack of identity be holding golf back from broader appeal? By recognising the needs of non-traditional golfers, we can attract a more diverse group of players into the game. What do you do to attract non-traditional golfers to your brand? 📊 It's not about recruiting more women to golf—it’s about keeping them. We often hear the phrase, “Grow the game.” Is this really the most efficient way of helping our sport?
