PROJECT COMPLETION ✔️ This week we completed the new £3.6m Barwell Medical Centre ready for opening to it's first patients on the 6th November. The new centre will provide modern healthcare facilities to many more local people and allow it to provide a greater range of much-needed health services, including physiotherapy and mental health support. It was great to welcome Year 2 Architecture students from Nottingham Trent University to take a look at the University of Nottingham Central Building project, last week. The visit kick starts a series of workshops and tours with Nottingham Trent University students to provide support with their Technology module. During these visits, students will gain an understanding of the construction process from a design, planning, and construction perspective. It’s great to see Nottingham’s universities supporting each other. The Garden Village Primary Academy (GVPA), which forms part of the Fierté Multi-Academy Trust has held an official opening, as it celebrates its first term. As part of Staffordshire County Council's wider investment into schools, G F Tomlinson have recently delivered three new schools, in partnership with Entrust Education, and procured through the Constructing West Midlands (CWM) framework. The new Dunstall Park Primary School is now officially open! We were delighted to attend the official school opening event and was joined by pupils, parents, staff, the local community and representatives from Staffordshire County Council, The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP) and Entrust Education. The event included music, performed by the ATLP choir and a presentation of the construction journey! This was followed by a ceremonial cutting of the ribbon by Head of School, Natalie Harris and Councillor Jonathan Price, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education. We were delighted to continue our support for the Lincolnshire Construction Week event for the fourth year. The event was held across three days at Lincolnshire Showground and invited primary and secondary students to partake in various activities, giving them a taste of the industry. Our Aftercare team, Graham and John, along with Site Supervisor Dave, conducted a hands-on door-hanging activity. Two doorsets, each at different stages of completion, were provided. Groups rotated through the activity, learning how to hang doors, install handles and fixings, and learning how the door frames are constructed square. A sneak peak of what's to come! 🪐🌠 Whilst we don't want to give too much away, we have been lucky enough to get a first glimpse of the 10-meter hemispherical screen in the Planetarium at Sherwood Observatory working in all it's glory! The Planetarium will eventually showcase tours of the solar system and beyond. The team have been busy on the final stretch of works to the internal fit-out of the new Science Discovery Centre in readiness for it's completion very soon. The scheme involves the transformation of a disused underground Victorian reservoir into an education centre for school and group visits. The development will breathe new life into the historic building, which will feature an exhibition hall, classrooms, a café, and meeting rooms, as well as the state-of-the-art planetarium. The removal of the existing Central Building PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) roof is now complete! Strengthening works and re-painting of the structural frame has been carried out, along with the refurbishment and replacement of key components. Temporary rigging and birdcage scaffolding now supports the structure and will remain in place until the installation of the new membrane is complete, which is now underway. Once the new tensile fabric is in place, the installation of new laminated glass will be installed, along with a new large central roof light, allowing plenty of natural light into the building. As these significant works come to close over the next few weeks, we look forward to seeing the next phase of works begin, including the creation of the first floor mezzanine, a welcome reception area, restaurant and bar. This project comprises the conversion of existing buildings and sheds into smaller food production units for local food and drink businesses. The site will also see investment into the creation of a multi-functional open air event space with modernised toilet facilities allowing the site to combine events, festivals, tourism, innovation and enterprise.
