In May, the Hub launched the Whole Life Carbon Conventions for new homes to standardise whole life carbon assessments and ensure more accurate and consistent results. By measuring consistently, the new homes sector can accurately define an industry-wide baseline, benchmark and targets which will help inform a long-term roadmap. As government considers its policy approach to embodied and whole-life carbon in new homes, the sector needs to better understand and consistently measure its whole-life carbon footprint. A huge thanks to 2050 Materials for being the first commercial provider to integrate the sector’s default material and carbon data into their platform. This makes it easy for their users to build embodied carbon models that align with the WLC Conventions and RICS methodology. In addition, 2050 Materials offers a sizeable database of product-specific impact data, which supports the Hub’s Implementation Plan goal of increasing EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) coverage in as-built assessments. Exciting news! The Hub’s Homes for Nature Guidance Document is now live for signatories on our members portal: https://lnkd.in/eay6jVk4. To join the scheme, please visit: https://lnkd.in/eiw5Eh7G Thank you to RSPB Action for Swifts Hedgehog Street for your contribution to the guidance document. With 28 homebuilders on board, and more joining frequently, we’re taking a major step towards providing the vital nesting bricks and boxes needed to support swift populations and other bird species. Those signed up to the pledge have committed to installing a bird-nesting brick or box for every new home built, as well as hedgehog highways, on every new development taken through planning from 1st September 2024. This groundbreaking project, led by the Hub’s On Site Nature Measures Working Group, aims to create a significant increase in wildlife habitats across new developments in the UK. The comprehensive Homes for Nature Guidance Document is an invaluable resource providing detailed instructions on how to implement these crucial measures. It also covers SuDs, bat roosts, insect bricks and more, for those wanting to go beyond the mandatory commitment. By joining this initiative, homebuilders are not only contributing to biodiversity but also demonstrating their commitment to creating sustainable and nature-friendly communities. We encourage all developers to participate in this vital effort.
