Fraserburgh Harbour - supremely located for the fishing, oil and gas, commercial and offshore renewables sectors.

About us

Fraserburgh Harbour is a Trust Port located on the north east corner of Scotland, ideally positioned for fishing grounds, North Sea oil and gas fields, INTOG and ScotWind projects. The harbour has easy access, with approximately 2.5 miles of quayside offering safe berthing to fishing, cargo, CTV and SOV vessels, all of whom currently use the port. Each berth provides shore power and fresh water connections. Our renowned, independent vessel repair facilities offer a 6 berth shiplift capable of lifting vessels up to 850 tonnes in weight and 36 metres length in length. Our modern dry dock can accommodate larger vessels of length 66 metres and 14 metres beam. As a Trust Port, we are an independent statutory body created by our own legislation and responsible for holding, managing, maintaining and developing Fraserburgh Harbour. We are governed by 12 commissioners, and all profits are reinvested into the Harbour. We have ambitious plans in the pipeline. Our Masterplan is a vision and strategic framework for developing the harbour over the next 20 years. Its purpose is to secure the future of Fraserburgh Harbour through the expansion of our facilities to meet the needs of our current and future customers. In line with our strategic vision, we are proud of our collaborative partnership with Fraserburgh Academy and Developing Young Workforce. Together we will collaborate to raise awareness of the harbour and its impact locally as well as the many maritime sectors operating in Fraserburgh including vessel repair, offshore renewable energy, commercial, and fishing industry opportunities

Fraserburgh Harbour is a dynamic and diverse organisation, dedicated to ensuring a thriving future for the industries we service and the town, region and country in which we are located.    Therefore, we are delighted to announce that our new Finance Manager/Treasurer, Lorna Petrie, brings with her a track record which is equally diverse – and 100% relevant to all that we are achieving, and all that we aim to achieve, in the coming years via our Harbour Masterplan.   Lorna’s financial expertise has been applied to the offshore oil and gas industry (including vessel turnaround, supplies and services), offshore wind and Fraserburgh’s fishing industry - all of which give her significant knowledge and understanding of our current and future customers.    With additional experience in industrial construction and charitable organisations, Lorna’s capabilities will prove invaluable - not only when it comes to the physical development of the Harbour but also the positive impact the Masterplan will have on our local economic and community development.    Lorna explains: “I have a keen interest in the future of Fraserburgh, and the role the Harbour Masterplan will play in developing the infrastructure and encouraging the investment which will ensure a bright future for generations of locals. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to really put Fraserburgh on the map once again as we facilitate the growth of the industries we service, and I look forward to playing my part in achieving this objective.”    #ports #economicdevelopment #fishing #energytransition #communitydevelopment

Last week, we were pleased to welcome Daniel Zeichner, UK Food Security and Fisheries Minister, who joined us alongside the Scottish Fishermen's Federation. This was a great opportunity for us to showcase the fishing boats in Harbour at the time, our fish market, ice factory, dry dock, ship lift and the outstanding vessel repair & maintenance supply chain which surrounds us. As Scotland’s fourth largest harbour and premier nephrops port, each of these elements plays a vital role when it comes to the importance of fishing in the town. Aberdeenshire has the most fish processing jobs in Scotland, with Fraserburgh home to the largest proportion of fish processing jobs in the region (41%) – highlighting the impact of our Harbour Development Masterplan and its objectives to accommodate bigger vessels and maintain our supply chain. #fishing #ports Pamela Neri MBA, Elspeth Macdonald

We’re a Harbour committed to facilitating the energy industry’s journey towards net zero.   Our excellent navigational access, quayside capacities and shoreside facilities - which include ship-to-shore electricity supply on all berths - has resulted in Fraserburgh Harbour being selected by Geo-data specialist, Fugro, as the mobilisation centre for its pioneering 12-metre Blue Essence® uncrewed surface vessel (USV), Fugro Vaquita.    With us for approximately two months, the vessel will conduct remote inspection work for multiple commercial projects in the North Sea – which will be controlled from Fugro’s remote operations centre (ROC) in Aberdeen. Compared to conventional vessels, the USV reduces fuel emissions by 95% and improves the operational safety of projects by transferring all personnel to onshore roles.   #energytransition #netzero #energy #decarbonisation

It‘s no exaggeration when we say that Fraserburgh’s vessel repair and maintenance services are internationally renowned. Vessels come from across Europe, Ireland and, of course, the length and breadth of the UK to our centre of excellence where we are home to skilled and high-quality supply chain businesses operating in the Harbour. Literally ANYTHING required for vessel repair and maintenance can be found within just 500m and last weekend, our Harbour Superintendent, John Murison, could see more than 10 companies from Fraserburgh and beyond working together to undertake a huge variety of tasks that are simply unseen and unthought of by many who are not involved in the world of maritime & ship repair and servicing. Pictured are two of those companies - Macduff Group and Dales Marine Services Ltd - who were undertaking some heavy duty steel work. #vessels #maritime #shiprepair

A hugely informative visit last week from Michelle Quinn and Alison Gilfillan of The Scottish Government's Offshore Wind Directorate - the aim of which is to drive the benefits from the growth of offshore renewables for Scotland’s economy, citizens and environment as we transition to net zero. This was a true exchange of knowledge as we discussed the Harbour Masterplan and all we hope to achieve, as well as our significant experience as an O&M port. Michael Lumsden, Deputy Operations and Maintenance Manager, Moray East at OW Ocean Winds also gave our visitors an understanding of how the Harbour supports Ocean Wind’s operations in the area. In return, our visitors shared insight into the purpose of the Direcorate and discussed its interest in Fraserburgh Harbour and our objectives. #offshorewind #netzero #energytransition #decarbonisation John Murison, Doreen Mair, Pamela Neri MBA, Lorna Petrie

Whilst he originates from Fraserburgh our Board Commissioner, Callum Milne, has spent much of his career overseas in the oil and gas industry, focused on onshore and offshore new build or brownfield facilities projects.   On his return to the UK six years ago, he obtained an MSc in Decommissioning before switching his focus to renewable energy and becoming Project Manager for the Net Zero Technology Centre on two decarbonisation-focused projects, Hydrogen Backbone Link and Energy Hubs Projects.   When we asked Callum what his motivators had been for joining our Board, he told us:   “I have spent a lot of my life and career overseas and therefore not had the opportunity to be involved locally, until lately. I am at the stage in my life and career where I would like to pay back some of my experience and contribute to something that can really make a difference in the region.   “This is more than a nostalgic requirement, but a desire to help the vision for the Harbour and its impact on Fraserburgh. It is a town that I am still passionate about, and when the position for a Board Commissioner became available, I saw this as an opportunity to get involved.   “The future will bring many changes across Scotland and the UK, and the Masterplan is critical in assuring the Harbour’s growth, whilst also having the vision to create opportunities. I look forward to being a part of this.” #ports #development #fishing #energy

Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome The Scottish Government's Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop, to the Harbour. Interested in all aspects of the Harbour - from fishing and vessel repair to offshore wind - Ms Hyslop's questions around the Harbour Masterplan were both pertinent and challenging, and we enjoyed discussing the importance of the Harbour ecosystem and our plans to secure the future of the Harbour as an economic anchor in our coastal community. A positive, enlightening visit for us all and we look forward to welcoming Ms Hyslop back to the Broch again soon.
