This British Food Fortnight, we are shining a spotlight on locally grown produce and the benefits it brings to both people and planet. When it comes to fresh produce, our country has historically relied on imports for out-of-season crops. But as climate change wreaks havoc on European harvests, there has never been a greater need to safeguard our nation’s food security whilst reducing our carbon footprint, and source our produce closer to home. Vertical farming makes this possible. Here at Fischer Farms, we are growing ethical, edible plants that are good for people, planet and palates. Our delicious fresh produce is grown right here in the UK, 365-days-a-year, giving us better food security, better food consistency and better food quality. We were delighted to welcome Ben Goldsborough, MP for South Norfolk, to Farm 2 in Norwich this morning, as part of his visit to Food Enterprise Park. Ben was keen to find out more about the Enterprise Zone and the businesses located here, to see the impact such hubs are having on local, sustainable food production. It was a pleasure to show him around behind the scenes of our vertical farm, showing him our automated growing process. He even enjoyed some tasty samples. Thanks for visiting Ben!

According to the Met Office, the winter of 2023/2024 was the eight wettest on record in the UK. The farming community is already reporting tens of millions of pounds of losses due to extreme weather caused by climate change. At Fischer Farms, we are committed to finding new ways of feeding the world, to safeguard global food security in a sustainable way. We’re creating a revolution in farming. Our next-generation vertical farms offer a scalable solution with the capability to operate 365 days a year using only sustainable energy sources and providing yields 250 times greater than conventional farming. #verticalfarming #agritech #sustainablefarming

Did you catch us on BBC Breakfast yesterday talking about the benefits of vertical farming? It was great to be able to showcase our chive production at our Norwich facility. Nearly 10 million kilos of chives are imported into the UK each year. Vertical farming gives customers access to high-quality produce, grown in a climate-controlled environment, all year round, slashing food miles and reducing reliance on overseas imports from countries as far away as Kenya. What’s more, vertical farms use a fraction of the land required for field grown crops and our closed loop irrigation system means our operations also uses less water. #verticalfarming #bbcnews #agritech #sustainablefarming https://lnkd.in/dHUi3u9D
