Best of Bordeaux 🍷🇫🇷 This week we headed into the historic heart of London for the Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés Tasting of the 2020-2023 vintages at Church House in Westminster. What a pleasure to taste so many of the 2023 vintages straight from the barrel, as well as meeting the people behind the wines, including François-Xavier Maroteaux, co-owner of Château Branaire-Ducru, and ines de bailliencourt co-owner of Château Gazin. We know sustainability in wine is important, but how can we communicate it better? 🍷📱 This was one of the questions asked at the 2024 US Sustainable Winegrowing Summit, where FirstPour presented the social media perspective, as reported by Decanter. “Richard Morley, the director of UK-based marketing agency FirstPour, said: ‘Wine hashtags on social media give us a litmus test of general interest levels," writes Cassandra Charlick. "#wine has 77 million posts, #organicwine has 929k , #biodynamicwine has 272k and #sustainablewine sits at 64.9k. These stats show us that organic wine is established and understood as it has got its message right. The main challenge in communicating sustainable winemaking is that sustainability is a broad and wide-ranging concept. Did you know that 80% of Californian wine is certified sustainable? 🌱 Those are some pretty good odds that if you’re drinking something from the Golden State, it was sustainably produced.
