I'm proud to have played a small role in supporting our grantee, FHI 360, and its partners in Vietnam on the launch of the second phase of funding from Fleming, with the announcement of GBP 3.4M to strengthen AMR surveillance and control through One Health approaches. This phase will see continued collaboration among FHI 360, National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Hanoi (OUCRU), @PATHInternational, and national partners such as the Medical Services Administration - Ministry of Health (MSA-MOH), Department of Animal Health - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (DAH-MARD), and the Pollution Control Department – Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). A critical new tool to support the second phase work is Vietnam's new national AMR strategy. Over the next few years investment from the Fleming Fund will help support the development of individual action plans for human health, animal health and environment -- ie, a roadmap for how Vietnam will proactively tackle its AMR related risks. With every visit I've made to the project sites and to meetings with authorities I'm always impressed at the spirit, dedication and resolve of everyone I've met.
