VP/Head of Product | Mentor & Diversity Ambassador | Digital Leader of the year finalist | Tech for Good 🌱

What advice would you give to someone scaling a product team for the first time? A few months back, I had the pleasure of joining a panel with Alan Bateup, Jonathan Pearson and Hao Zhou to discuss the challenges of scaling products. Scaling introduces complexities—communication becomes harder, staying informed is tougher, and maintaining culture requires more effort. There were LOADS of things I took away from the event, here were 3 that might be useful to first timers: 👩💻 Scaling Beyond Tech: Don’t limit your scaling efforts to just the product. Sometimes, the best ROI might come from non-tech solutions. Empowered teams should explore all options with their stakeholder groups to find the best path to achieving their goals, and be accountable and rewarded for that. 👯 Balanced Recruitment: When scaling, it’s easy to overhire “superstars” and permanent staff. You need to think about hiring "rockstars" too, as well as maintaining a mix of contract and permanent team members giving you the flexibility to scale up or down as needed—though be mindful of the financial implications of that. 📈 Investor Communication: Product teams thrive on agility and discovery to solve business problems better, but scaling with external investment requires a shift in language for instance talking about de-risking as well as clear reporting. Prioritize just a few key initiatives, plan in ranges for time and budget, and always target against outcomes rather than just deliverables to give space for your team to do their best work. My key takeaway? 🌿 When scaling or facing tough challenges, reach out to mentors, communities or just rock up at an event like this one. You’ll gain valuable insights and the reassurance that you’re likely on the right track! Thanks to Tony Gurrea and the team at Few&Far for organizing such a great event, brilliant vibe, lots of great people and insights - looking forward to the next one! ps wondering how we're scaling our products at Sedex to improve the social and environmental impacts of supply chains around the world? Happy to chat!

Founder & CEO @ Few&Far ⎮ Helping companies build teams to realise their potential.

Only 2 people put their hand up in a room of 400 when I asked the question "who knows what they want their lifestyle and career to look like in 10 years time?" That's not surprising as it's a question that people see as having an endless amount of possibilities. But without knowing the answer, how can you know what the next role should be, what you should be gaining in terms of experience, who you should be networking with or even what industries you should be considering? These decisions should be strategic and purposeful to give you the best chance of creating you the lifestyle and career that you really want. Over the last few years I've built a framework that has helped people consider the options they have as well as guidance on what pieces of experience they need to gain. We're turning this in to a Career Guide and we'll be launching one route each week in September! Keep an eye out on the Few&Far channels! #tech #prodmgmt #fractional #CareerGrowth

Happy Menopause Monday (let's go with it, there was a bank holiday 😂 ) Welcome to week two of my 'Menopause Mondays' series! As a certified menopause wellness practitioner, I'm here to share insights and tips on supporting women through perimenopause and menopause at work. Together, we can help bridge the gender gap in senior positions. The effect on the workplace can be Menopause-related issues result in an estimated 14 million lost workdays annually in the UK. Replacing an employee who leaves due to menopause can cost over £30,000 per person, adding significant economic pressure on businesses. Here are three of the many ways you can support women going through menopause at work: ⭐ Encourage an active lifestyle - Regular exercise, such as walking, running, or dancing, can help with menopause symptoms including osteoporosis. Making sure you encourage your colleagues and staff to take regular walking breaks or access to a workplace gym / gym staff benefit can help combat this. (Not to mention, this is good for everyone no matter their age or gender!) ⭐ Be understanding - Menopause can cause symptoms like memory lapses and difficulty concentrating, which are known as "brain fog". This can lead to many women feeling as though they are no longer able to do their job or like they're not performing as well as their colleagues. ⭐ Access to mental health resources and support - Menopause impacts employees not just physically, but emotionally as well. By investing in resources and programmes that address the emotional aspects of menopause, employers can help foster a workplace culture that supports open discussions about the mental health challenges experienced during this stage I'd love to hear how your company are supporting women going through this transition and your experiences. Or if you want more information on how you can create an inclusive work environment, please don't hesitate to reach out! #menopause #menopauseatwork #genderbalance #womenatwork Few&Far
