👑 It was a great honour for Extracellular to welcome the UK Minister of Science, Lord Patrick Vallance and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to our facilities at Science Creates last week 👑 During the visit we discussed all things cell-cultured products, including the recent formation of the Regulatory Innovation Office, which helps speed up public access to emerging technologies such as cell-cultured bio-products, as well as discussed the new funding for the regulatory sandbox for cultivated meat It's great to see the Labour Party (UK) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology championing new, innovative technologies and easing the regulatory burden on our industry

🎉 We're now ISO 22000 Certified!! 🎉 👷♀️ We've been working hard behind the scenes at Extracellular to implement world-class, internationally recognised quality standards within our facilities and operations, adding to the ISO 9001 we achieved earlier this year 👷♀️ 🏆 This a huge milestone for us to be able to produce safe, high-quality and nutritious alternative food products for our customers 🏆 🏭 It aligns perfectly with the commencement of production operations from our pilot-scale facility, meaning we'll be able to produce bio-produced food for a range of development and commercial purposes globally - reach out if you're in need! 🏭 And of course, a big kudos to all the Quality & Operations team at Extracellular, led by Jamie Thompson, for all the hard-work over the months

🇬🇧 UK continuing to pave the way in Europe in the cell-cultivated products space...🇬🇧 🍫 Fantastic news today with the Food Standards Agency announcing £1.6m in funding towards cell-cultivated products and the development of a regulatory sandbox 🍫 ⚡ This development is a hugely positive step in developing a quicker, safer and cheaper approach to regulating cell-cultured, while bringing the industry and regulators closer together ⚡ 🚀 It also continues to show that the UK will be a great launchpad for both local and international cell-cultured companies (with Extracellular here to help 👍 ) 🚀 Great work from The Good Food Institute Europe and Alternative Proteins Association in working with the FSA on shaping this approach! https://lnkd.in/defccCTy

Our very own Nico Hutton was recently featured in the latest The Future of Protein Production magazine, talking about what collaboration in the cell-based industry means for Extracellular. "Instead of every company going through the same challenge, they should lean on the expertise that has been through these challenges previously" Take a read below and thanks to The Future of Protein Production for the feature!

🇫🇷 A few weeks ago the Extracellular put their pipettes down and went to the south of France for a team retreat 🇫🇷 🍷 Not much cell-culture chat. Just good wine, good food, and good company 🍷 A special thanks to Jasper Van De Sompel and Will Milligan for being gracious hosts
Earlier this month, we put the lab in hibernation and I took the team to the south of France for a company retreat. ☀️🏖️ They’re such an amazing team, and they consistently go above and beyond at every opportunity. It was great to see them relax and enjoy themselves. 🧘🏼♀️ I have such fond memories of a trip my previous boss took the team on to Venice. It brought us together and made us feel super valued. It was a special thing for me to be able to do this for my team now, and I hope they feel the same! And we have a few great photos of the trip to remember it by. Here’s a few of my favourites 😊

📰 Some more great news yesterday for alternative proteins in the UK. We were proud to support University of Leeds in being awarded £15m to set up a dedicated Alt Protein Knowledge Centre in the UK, along with the The James Hutton Institute, The University of Sheffield and Imperial College London. A further £23m was invested by partners and supporters 📰 💷 This goes along with the $30m provided by the Bezos Fund to Imperial College for a Sustainable Protein research centre, and the £12m for the Cell Agri Manufacturing Hub - showing the UK is serious about being one of the leaders in Alternative Protein 💷 😋 These investments go along way in fostering innovation, partnerships, commercialisation, and of course, making great and sustainable products for consumers 😋 Well done to Anwesha Sarkar, Karen Polizzi, Professor Derek Stewart, & Louise Dye for all your hard work https://lnkd.in/d5sjnTGj

📽 We were thrilled to announce our recent partnership with Merck at GBX EVENTS MEVO conference in Barcelona earlier this year 📽 🔬 About 12 months ago, we successfully scaled Merck's serum-free media formulation 200L with a fed-batch process within our facilities, producing kg's of cultivated meat. This project effectively demonstrated the scalability of Merck's very high-performing media and our capabilities at 200L 🔬 Watch the great video that Merck put together to learn more about our collaboration! 🎉 Once again, thanks to Frederic Berkermann, Lauren Poulin, Timothy Olsen, Ph.D. and the rest of the Merck team for the collaboration opportunity and the MEVO gang for such an awesome conference 🎉 💌 Reach out if you have any collaboration opportunities with Extracellular to further the cell-based food industry! 💌 https://lnkd.in/d--da_V3

🍫 At Extracellular, we understand that for cell-cultured products to be competitive with traditional products, we need to get to cost parity for biomanufacturing. This means finding new and creative ways to reduce biomanufacturing costs as much as possible 🍫 🥓 This means we produce our products in food-grade sites instead of over-specced biopharma facilities 🥓 🥇 It means we use traditional agriculture inputs for our media, not growth factors that cost more per kg than gold 🥇 🏡 And it means we don't use bioreactors that cost more than a central London house 🏡 This is our ethos....And we're demonstrating that with the opening of our food-grade site in Q1 2024, complete with our new 2,000L bioreactor. Yes we built it on the site of an old microbrewery. Yes its safe to produce cells in there. And yes it cost us 95% less per sqm than a biotech facility....savings we pass on to our customers. This is only stage 1 of our facility journey. Watch out for more 👀 Special shoutout to Jamie Thompson & lionel zapata vega for the amazing job in leading this project 🎉

🦋 Doesn't she just look great all dressed up? 🦋 👁 Here's a sneak peak inside one of the largest contract pilot facilities for cell-culture production in Europe. Complete with a 200L and 2,000L bioreactor, and more to come shortly to eventually reach 10,000L of total production capacity 👁 🎉 We were ecstatic to open this facility earlier this year and begin pilot-scale cell-culture work in here shortly after 🎉 🍻 In fact, this was an old microbrewery, that we have decided to convert into a biotech facility. It has all the same features including ISO 9001 and soon to have ISO22000 + food safety approval. 🍻 🥐 Here at Extracellular, we're living the food-first approach. Finding new ways to move the industry forward and lower the cost of production for cell-cultured production 🥐 Stay tuned for a behind the scenes look at how it was built....

🥩 We're getting closer and closer to having a cultivated meat product in the UK and Europe for consumers to enjoy 🥩 ⏩ Over the last week, there's been some great regulatory progress with some of the leading cultivated meat companies in Europe ⏩ 1) Meatly gained approval for the first ever cultivated product to be sold on market in the UK, with their cultivated pet food product. 2) Mosa Meat held one of Europe's first tastings of their cultivated beef burger, following Meatable's tasting a few months ago. 3) GOURMEY have announced that they have filed for 5(!) regulatory approvals for their cultivated foie gras, including in the UK, EU and Switzerland. 💪 It's getting clearer and clearer that cultivated food products are here to stay and will undoubtedly form part of the food system of the future, in the process saving millions of tonnes of harmful emissions and billions of animals lives 💪 🎉 A huge congratulations to the companies mentioned above and the tremendous progress you've made in trailblazing the way. We're proud to be part of this impactful industry alongside you 🎉
