🔍 State of the art analysis of LCA-based ecolabelling schemes in Europe In recent years, environmental rating ecolabels have emerged alongside traditional labels, using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to measure a product’s full environmental impact, from production to disposal. A recent study by Wageningen University & Research looks at the growing use of these ecolabelling schemes across Europe. It evaluates 16 of these schemes using 40 assessment criteria, providing valuable insights and offering recommendations to harmonise the systems. The goal is to improve comparability, transparency, and trust within the sector. Eco-labels play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable fishing by helping consumers make eco-conscious choices. This review explores how certifications like the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) impact fisheries, shedding light on both the benefits and challenges. 🌍 For large-scale fisheries, some certifications facilitate entry into premium markets, offering a competitive edge through higher prices and consumer trust in sustainable practices. 🚧 Small-scale fisheries can face significant financial challenges, primarily due to the high costs associated with obtaining and maintaining certifications. 🤝 Certification schemes foster better collaboration among stakeholders in the fisheries value chain, enhancing resource management and encouraging sustainable practices. 🐟 To address the challenges faced by small-scale fisheries, territorial and community-based eco-certifications have emerged as more feasible options, tailored to local contexts and economic realities. The latest report from Textile Exchange, 'Reimagining growth landscape analysis', examines the pressing sustainability challenges in the fashion, apparel, and textile industry. It highlights the sector’s reliance on a linear 'take-make-waste' model, contributing to environmental harm and resource depletion, and misaligned with global climate and social goals. 👚🌏✨ The report reinforces the importance of achieving a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from raw material sourcing by 2030, a goal aligned with the 1.5°C pathway of the Paris Agreement. Meeting this target involves actions such as: 👉 Reducing reliance on virgin fossil-based materials and transitioning to sustainable alternatives 👉 Scaling circular business models to reduce waste and overproduction 👉 Collaborating across the industry to ensure collective progress toward sustainability Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dAwjAwFk Author: Rachel Arthur

Tackling the climate crisis requires everyone to act, with businesses playing a pivotal role in both providing climate solutions and mitigating their own environmental impacts. 🌍🤝 The latest OECD - OCDE paper highlights how Responsible Business Conduct standards, a only government-backed international instrument that sets out clear climate expectations for businesses, can support companies in setting science-based mitigation and adaptation targets, managing climate risks, and ensuring a just transition. To align with these goals, OECD recommends business... ...adopt a holistic approach that considers not only climate impacts but also their interdependencies with human rights, biodiversity, and broader sustainability goals. ...engage proactively with climate-affected stakeholders, support policies that promote fair labour practices, and invest in workforce reskilling to create new green jobs. ...continuously evaluate their environmental and social impacts, refine their strategies, and engage meaningfully with stakeholders to ensure transparent, accountable, and adaptive climate action.
