Are you at the beginning of your #decarbonisation journey and don't know where to start? Part of being able to develop and execute a decarbonisation plan is learning the language 🗨 Throughout September, we have been collaborating with the London Borough of Havering to deliver a combination of online and in-person carbon literacy and decarbonisation training sessions to local SMEs 👩🏫 The sessions, run by Charlie Leaman-Pearce, Katharine R. and Eleanor Lewis, included an introduction to the core concepts of climate science and carbon literacy, and a detailed walkthrough of our recommended 12 step process to build a robust and bespoke carbon action plan 📝 It was great to come together with like-minded individuals from a range of sectors, hear about their decarbonisation journey to date, and contribute towards their next steps to reaching their sustainability goals 👊 These sessions are an example of the tailored decarbonisation packages that we offer. If you are interested in hearing more about the decarbonisation services that we can offer, please get in touch with Charlie Leaman-Pearce to find out more 📞

  • We’re heading to the Sustainability in Packaging Conference in Barcelona next Tuesday 8th October to talk about what’s next in the packaging sector – will you be there? 👀 As event sponsors we’re also hosting a drinks reception at 6.30pm in the Foyer Sedna at Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower – come and say hello 👋 National government action and corporate commitments on packaging continue to proliferate so there’s lots to discuss… 🗨 👉 Did you know in 2021, the EU generated 188.7 kg packaging waste per inhabitant? That’s the weight of a small car, thrown away, for every six citizens… 👉 The #PPWR has passed but how will the new European Commission implement and enforce provisions? 👉 Globally an estimated 60% of plastic production goes into packaging, and plastic packaging account for approximately 70% of marine plastic litter… the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations are also just around the corner… 👉 There are huge opportunities to innovate towards creating a closed loop system for materials and containers in packaging 👉 We know #DRS and #EPR work and they’re becoming increasingly widespread and sophisticated 👉 Reuse at scale is being tested and developed - market leaders are exploring the benefits available from economies of scale, logistics, and the infrastructure currently enjoyed by single use 👉 Initiatives like DPP and packaging and product sustainability requirements and tracking could offer a whole new big data ecosystem. Not forgetting that our recent research (see link in comments below for report) showed key material sectors will need to think more creatively about their net zero by 2050 target to stay within the 1.5-degree target for maximum temperature rise and minimal climate damage 🤔 Want to know more? Connect with Sarah Edwards, Joe Papineschi, Lucy Eggleston and star molteno - our experts attending the conference or just come along for a chat! 🤝 #CircularEconomy #DepositReturnScheme #ExtendedProducerResponsibility #Reuse #Packaging #Sustainability

Ready for a future where reuse takes the lead? 🌍 TOMRA’s second recommendation for the UN’s global plastics treaty: promote reuse models. Shifting to reusable packaging isn’t just about cutting down on single-use plastic. It reduces litter, waste generation, material consumption, and lowers GHG emissions. 💡 Cities like #Aarhus 🇩🇰 and #Berlin 🇩🇪 are already setting the standard. With the backing of public authorities, they’re showing that reuse isn’t just a sustainable solution, it’s also a smart, cost-effective choice for businesses and communities. Under the #PPWR, takeaways are required to implement reuse systems, with a target of at least 10% by 2030. Aarhus and Berlin are already ahead, but there’s potential to scale even further with stronger policy support. 🚨 Zero Waste Europe’s recent report is calling for bold government action to make reuse the norm everywhere - download it right here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eb5gHwE2 And if you want to read more about our 10 recommendations, you can find them here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dsxPnh5c #CircularEconomy #Reuse #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #PlasticPollution #TOMRA

We're pleased to announce that Jonquil Hackenberg will start as our new CEO on 4th November 2024. She will take over from Andrew Morlet, who announced his intention to move on from the Foundation after ten successful years as CEO. Over the last decade, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation has mobilised stakeholders across industries to embrace circular economy solutions to address global challenges such as plastic pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss. The Foundation has now set itself ambitious goals for 2030 to further expand its network, deepen its impact, and empower the next generation of changemakers. Appointing our next CEO gives the organisation a runway to deliver on these goals. We look forward to welcoming Jonquil, and thank Andrew for his exceptional leadership, which has contributed significantly to the growth, influence, and impact of the circular economy globally.
