Engenuiti's Sports Day took place last week. We all enjoyed egg & spoon race, three-legged race, sack race, welly wanging and tug of war in the sunshine in Burgess Park.
About us
We are thinkers, doers, designers. We are advocates for a better future. We are structural and civil engineers. Engenuiti is an unashamedly people driven practice, rooted in technical strength, and motivated by making buildings which are exemplary in respect of their low impact on the environment. Our rigorous approach is harnessed to minimise the materials we specify, creating elegance in our designs and solving even the most complex of problems.

Over the last month McAleer & Rushe has been working hard to cast the foundations for GMV blocks 401&403. Our graduate engineer Owen designed the reinforcement and has been visiting site to see his work in real life. It has been exciting to witness both the progress of the new homes and Owen's progression as an engineer!

Jennifer Chambers and the design team are working hard to save the life of this rare Pagoda tree in Finsbury Circus! We are investigating options in the structural design of the new parks office building to minimise the impact on this Sophora Japonica tree, one of only a handful in all of London! This Grade II listed site has many constraints, with Crossrail, Post Office and Hammersmith & City line tunnels below ground.

We are showcasing our low carbon timber building expertise at FOOTPRINT+ this week. Discussing two of our projects, Waterbeach Barracks Primary School with a mass timber frame and envelope, and Beormund School that uses lightweight cassettes and glulam frame, our timber experts Kath Hannigan and Steve Peet along with Alex Abbey, Cullinan Studio and James McCosh, van Heyningen and Haward Architects will lay out the key aspects of designing in timber that all practitioners and clients should know to deliver healthy joyful buildings in timber. Such as fire, durability, acoustics and robust detailing.

Our Senior Structural Engineer Kath Hannigan is chairing the session: 'Designing in timber: A how to guide' at FOOTPRINT+ this week. She's looking forward to sharing her knowledge together with Steve Peet, Alex Abbey & James McCosh.
There is a persistent myth that timber is more expensive than concrete for building projects. But even without factoring in the recent increase in concrete costs, timber offers wider savings that can more than outweigh the simple cost of materials. Switching from concrete and steel to timber wherever possible is going to become a necessity if net zero carbon targets are to be met by the construction industry. As timber sequesters carbon, projects do not need to rely on other, more expensive carbon-reducing methods to hit net zero targets. And timber is better for the wellbeing of a building's users. Studies have found that being surrounded by wooden surfaces reduces stress and that timber workplaces are more productive. Timber makes for better, calmer, happier buildings. At FOOTPRINT+ next week, Cullinan Studio partner, Alex Abbey, will be joining a panel of speakers including James McCosh of van Heyningen and Haward Architects and Kath Hannigan and Steve Peet of engineers Engenuiti, to lay out the key aspects of designing in timber. Using the example of two schools, the session will cover: - Carbon and below-ground structure - Procurement - Durability - Designing for fire protection - Water ingress and leak protection - Acoustics More details here: https://lnkd.in/d-U5j7bm #timber #netzerocarbon #DesignWithNature #schoolarchitecture #schooldesign #netzeroschool #timbercassette #wellbeing #healthybuildings

For #EarthDay we share our rammed earth block. We all have to better ourselves to care for our Earth. At our study trip last October we learnt more about sustainable building practises at Centre for Alternative Technology. We all took part in a rammed earth workshop and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The tour of the site also took us to the UK's highest rammed earth walls of the circular Sheppard Theatre. Mixing, compacting, ramming, levelling, inspecting - proud engineers!
