🟢 The results of Allocation Round 6 means an additional 9.6GW of clean energy capacity in the UK, including 5GW of offshore wind, 1GW of onshore wind and a record-breaking 3GW of solar. 🏠 This is enough to power the equivalent of 8 million homes and represents investment of at least £20bn providing jobs, skills, and growth across the UK. “Allocation Round 6 represents a crucial step in the journey to clean power by 2030,” says our CEO Emma Pinchbeck. "It’s more important than ever that we build a clean energy system that can ensure our energy security and protect homes and businesses across the country from unaffordable energy bills." Super fun today filming Energy UK's next podcast with Simon Virley CB FEI at KPMG and Rosa Hodgkin at the Institute for Government all on machinery of government. Expertly chaired (as always) by Yumann Siddiq at Smart DCC, we chatted about how could the new Labour Government set up the Whitehall and wider structures to achieve the energy mission. Energy is fundamental to economic growth and without a huge amount more of low-carbon, domestic energy it puts the wider decarbonisation agenda at risk but also keeps us exposed to global gas prices. Our CEO Emma Pinchbeck attended a roundtable hosted by Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero) to address high levels of customer debt in the energy sector. Emma joined representatives from energy suppliers and consumer groups to discuss steps forward to support households struggling with rising energy prices. Since 2018, household energy debt across the UK has steadily grown and has rapidly increased from the beginning of 2023.
