Last night I was playing a bit of WoW (yes I'm a nerd 🤓), while listening to a TopBillers Toolkit episode where Ben Miller ▶︎ & Sam Miller spoke with Mike Anderson (https://lnkd.in/gx_uRysh) - he was speaking about the truths of the clients and candidates situations. ⠀ ⠀ It's a bit of a reach (genuinely have no idea how my brain works) but it got me thinking about the 'Region Beta' paradox - it was coined by Daniel T Gilbert a psychologist who wrote the abstract "The peculiar longevity of things not so bad" back in 2004. https://lnkd.in/g9cSSkss. ⠀ ⠀ Essentially, 'Region Beta' is an area of our feelings, almost like a comfort zone, where thing's aren't great but they also aren't bad enough to inspire us to take action against it. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ So, this leads me on to why I've decided to word vomit this into a LinkedIn post. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Let me ask you a couple of questions. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ 1️⃣ Feeling like you’re just going through the motions? Ever heard yourself say, ‘I’ll look for something new next year’? 2️⃣ Ever felt a twinge of guilt when you’re stuck at work and can’t make it to a family event or your long work hours means you miss out on precious time with your child? 3️⃣ Ever worked somewhere that felt like you're back at primary school all over again? Cliques, gossip, and a lack of teamwork? A boss that you have to walk on eggshells around and pretend they're the funniest person alive? ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ 💡 Now think again, do you actually enjoy your job or are you “just comfortable enough” to stick with? I know a lot of people will be reading this thinking "it's a job, you're not supposed to enjoy it" and I can completely relate, because I was that person once - but that doesn't have to be the case! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ If you're reading this thinking, "christ, this hit a bit too close to home", then I want to help you because this 'paradox' was the catalyst for me to make, what felt like, a paralyzing decision at the time. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ The only thing I regret is not making the decision earlier.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Maybe these guys can help you? ⠀ ⠀ Arun H.
