Emerging Futures works nationally with people affected by addiction.

About us

Emerging Futures works nationally with people affected by addiction, encouraging them to make positive changes to their lives. We believe that no one should suffer the stigma associated with addiction, and that everyone seeking support should feel valued and respected. We provide homes for people to connect with others and make the necessary changes to move towards independent, healthy living. Our behaviour change services provide a confidential space to share experiences, and offer practical support to those who want to change. The Emerging Futures accredited coach training develops the skills of our volunteers, motivating people to give back and reconnect with their community.

Over 1,100 people will be released from prison today, but how many will return within a month or two? When the odds are against you and the right support systems are out of reach, staying on track can feel impossible, even with the best intentions.   Our prison link teams offer vital services to people on, before, and after release day to help end the cycle of reoffending.   This video, written and created by our EF service users and produced in partnership with Phil Pearce at Life Experience CIC, explores that sliding doors moment people face leaving the gates. Sound investments. Safe housing. Strong partnerships. Housing providers who lease properties to us get substantial partnership benefits. Whilst Landlords may venture into the sector to help tackle the homelessness crisis, they also need to get a solid return on their investment. Along with financial benefits like long-term leases and competitive rents paid upfront, our housing partners enjoy peace of mind knowing their properties are managed by our skilled teams. We spoke to EF housing partner Alexander Lyons of Landmarka, HMO and commercial property sourcing agents, who said; “After an initial conversation with Emerging Futures, you could just hear the competence and understanding of the social housing space. It was a breath of fresh air.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/efn_w_K4 #Housing #PropertyInvestment #SocialImpact #RealEstate If you’re a property investor or private landlord, and you’re interested in developing a supported housing project with us, then we want to hear from you. Please get in touch by emailing [email protected].

The theme for World Mental Health Day is mental health in the workplace. For some, work can cause additional stress and worry. Here are some tips for looking after your mental health when you’re on the clock. Do you have any other tips you can share? ✔️ Talk to your colleagues – if you’re feeling overwhelmed, tell your manager or colleague. Often, talking about how you are feeling helps tasks feel less daunting. ✔️ Take regular breaks – it’s all too easy to skip breaks, but taking 10 minutes to pause what you are doing and reset will help your wellbeing and productivity. ✔️ Get outside – spending time outdoors gets you moving and helps you reconnect with nature, both great for boosting your mood. ✔️ Eat well – it can be hard to keep up with a healthy eating routine when busy at work. Try to eat regular meals and drink plenty of water throughout the day. ✔️ Practice mindfulness – taking as little as a minute to practice mindfulness during the day can help you feel calmer, more connected, and more present in your work. Addiction can affect anyone, at any point in their life. Yet society continues to stigmatise addiction, preventing many from seeking the help they desperately need. As we mark Recovery Month, it’s crucial to emphasise that addiction is not a personal failure, there is overwhelming evidence that with the right support it can be overcome. #RecoveryMonth #Recovery #Addiction

There is no doubt that the prison early release scheme has been a topic of mixed reaction. More than 2000 prisoners have now been freed early under the scheme, but how many of those are now homeless and on the path to reoffending? People leaving prison are known to re-commit crime to avoid homelessness and reoffending. This costs the economy around £13.5bn a year. Last week, Shabana Mahmood, the Justice Secretary, called for an ‘honest conversation’ about what it might take to provide those leaving the criminal justice system with housing support. Stable accommodation is known to reduce the risk of re-offending by 20%. When someone is released from prison, they need somewhere safe to live to get their lives back on track, and the right support networks to help them reintegrate into the community. In 2022/23, we ran a pilot project to provide prison leavers with housing and specialised addiction recovery support. Run in partnership with Change Grow Live, and funded by the Ministry of Justice UK, the pilot gave us the chance to explore whether we could help break the cycle of reoffending and help people succeed. We estimate that the pilot saved £701,712 in the five months between November 2022 and March 2023 through people not being recalled to the criminal justice system. Our answer to the question, “is there a way to end the cycle of reoffending?”. Yes. Absolutely. And it starts with a roof. Today we pause to remember those we have lost to overdose. We continue to see an increase in overdose from drugs cut with synthetic opioids, which can be stronger than fentanyl and hundreds of times more potent than heroin. If you, or someone you know, are struggling with addiction, don’t suffer in silence. Get in touch today: [email protected] | 03330 124714 #OverdoseAwarenessDay #Addiction #RecoveryIsPossible
