October at Elevate was a whirlwind, which is probably why I’ve been a quiet on here! In the lead-up to events, I'm usually buried in last minute logistics mode, making sure all the final details come together. Here’s a little recap of what we've been up to: We kicked off with our third Northern Gamechangers Awards, bringing together 50 forward-thinking leaders from across the North. It was a fantastic chance to reconnect with past Gamechangers, catch up with our community, hear from previous Ultimate winners Lauren and Steven, and share ideas while celebrating the year’s successes. This year’s Ultimate Gamechanger, Beckie Taylor, is an exceptionally deserving winner. Her work with Tech Returners and Reframe Women in Tech has been transformative, advancing the conversation around women in tech. Her acceptance speech was both moving and deeply inspiring. Next up was the GM CreaTech event with the GMCA, GM Business Growth Hub, and Cloud Imperium Games. Greater Manchester has everything for creative and tech sectors to thrive, diverse talent, strong culture thrives, a thriving ecosystem, and a collaborative vibe across industries. The optimism from both the speakers and demonstrations was infectious. A white paper published by GM Business Growth Hub will follow the event to make sure that we continue to make positive change and promote the amazing talent GM has to offer. Beyond these big events, we’ve been catching up with members, planning our budget event coming up next week, and diving into consultancy work for both private and public clients. We wrapped up the month with a Dinner Club featuring Lisa Morton, founder and CEO of Roland Dransfield, at The Lowry Hotel, the perfect way to end a packed month! 💹 New Opportunities: Navigating the Business Landscape Post-Budget 2024: https://lnkd.in/eBASFBDy 🏆 The full Top 50 Northern Gamechangers 2024 list : https://lnkd.in/eYEVGjqc Ilona Alcock Katie Robson Beckie Taylor Becki Coen Gemma Blades Stephanie Boyle Lauren Rosegreen Steven Thompson Charlotte Caulfield Karen Johnston

🐝 Pulling together in a crisis is in Manchester's DNA Last night's Dinner Club featured the brilliant Lisa Morton, sharing her journey from "selling everything that wasn't nailed down" as a child, through launching Roland Dransfield 28 years ago to taking lessons in rest from her (equally brilliant) daughter. Manchester has faced some very difficult moments in that time - and the community (from all sectors) uses those moments to galvanise and rebuild. Lisa has been instrumental in the development of new neighbourhoods in the city, key sporting bids and, more recently, in ensuring the city's phenomenal growth doesn't leave anyone behind. We had such a lovely group of people and it always makes me so happy to see new connections being made in a welcoming space. Thanks Abby-Leigh Caulfield and The Lowry Hotel for hosting us so beautifully. We're planning out our 2025 Dinner Clubs so let me have your speaker and venue recommendations. 📸 Sign of a good event when I only manage to get a picture of the table before guests arrive! And just like that… the budget is done 🟥 Putting an end to the months of (increasingly unhelpful and emotive) speculation in the media and across this platform. As ever, if you’ll forgive the double cliché, the devil is in the detail and the proof is in the pudding. Over the next few weeks, we’ll see a swathe of analysis from experts working out what it means for different individuals, businesses and the public sector. It will take months, if not years, to truly understand the impacts of what has been announced today. So where does that leave us? 🤷♀️ If you’re like me, a bit optimistic, a bit apprehensive and more than a bit confused! Which is why I’m so happy to have a panel of brilliant people ready to share their insights and answer questions at our free event next week (link in comments). Huge thanks in advance to Charlotte Ashton, Fran Darlington-Pollock and Victoria Murphy. And of course, to Joseph Venables and the team at Bruntwood SciTech for hosting us.

One week to go until our Dinner Club featuring Lisa Morton, founder of Roland Dransfield! We can't wait to hear her story - including building a business over the last 25 years, hosting two fabulous podcasts (We Built This City and The Lobster Brain), and supporting the wider Greater Manchester community. Hosted by The Lowry Hotel, we'll enjoy a delicious three course meal with plenty of time for networking. 🗓️Wednesday 30th October 🕝6pm for a 6.30pm start 🔗Book here: https://lnkd.in/gP-6cCQw

Can we talk about loneliness please? 🙋🏻♀️ It is hard to develop and maintain friendships as an adult. As more of us move around the country (and the world!) we are less likely to be surrounded by the people we grew up with. With remote working on the rise, we spend less time with colleagues. And let's face it, even when you start new hobbies it can feel awkward trying to befriend the people around you. Being a founder can exacerbate this sense of loneliness. Everything sits on your shoulders... tech, finance, marketing, strategy, HR... the list goes on 🤯 Despite launching Elevate with the BEST co-founder anyone could wish for (👋 Katie) it has been a lonely journey at times. This sentiment is echoed by every founder I know. Which is why when Kat mentioned creating a community for female founders I literally bounced around with excitement. Fast forward a few months and I am so honoured to be a founding member of The Lonely Female Founders Club. It will initially bring 30 of us together on WhatsApp to offer peer support, alongside exclusive online events and inspirational speakers. The waitlist is open (link in comments) if you want to join us. Bonus business/life hack: when Kat asks if you want to get involved with a project, say YES. Emma Padden Fine Lines

Greater Manchester is a serious global competitor... and we're getting stronger. That was the key takeaway from our panellists at Friday's CreaTech event. Our region has everything we need for the creative and tech sectors to thrive. Including: 🌟 A thriving ecosystem 🌟 Funding and investment 🌟 Exceptional, diverse talent 🌟 Business support 🌟 Strong cultural heritage 🌟 Excellent universities and colleges 🌟 Collaborative approach within and across sectors 🌟 Gorgeous outdoor spaces It was wonderful to hear all the speakers and exhibitors so optimistic throughout the day. Just imagine what we could do if we had decent trains too?! Huge thanks to GMCA, GM Business Growth Hub and Cloud Imperium Games for getting us involved. Wow, what a week! Was brilliant to end it by attending #CreaTech at the Side Street Studios. Run by GM Business Growth Hub, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Cloud Imperium Games, supported by Elevate. It was a celebration of the strength of the creative and technology sectors in Greater Manchester. Great to catch up with so many people and a huge thanks to all the Hub, GMCA, Cloud Imperium and Elevate teams. #digitober

On World Menopause Day I wanted to share a bit about my journey. Despite being incredibly privileged it has been very difficult at times, and I've felt completely overwhelmed. I'm determined to keep talking about (peri) menopause to support people going through it or approaching it. It's also so important that we start considering the menopause as a workplace issue. It costs the UK economy £10bn a year and 1 in 10 women leave their jobs as a result. Let's use today to start more conversations and take action to make it easier for everyone to get the help we need.
