How do we know what future technologies might bring? Why do we think that AI will help us / save us / destroy us? Ever wondered how meaning is attributed to emerging technologies and how these visions are constructed? In the recently published Handbook of Technology Assessment, I had the opportunity to co-author a chapter with Armin Grunwald from the Institut für Technikfolgenabschätzung und Systemanalyse (ITAS) about his approach to #HermeneuticTA. The approach understands visions of the future not as statements about a time to come later than now but as statements situated in the present and driven by current #imaginaries, hopes, fears and assumptions - and also strategic interests. Besides this chapter, the entire handbook offers an important overview of the current status of #TechnologyAssessment and serves as an inspiring source for anyone interested in researching emerging technologies. #EmergingTechnologies #FutureVisions #Innovation #Research #Science #Technology #PhilosophyOfTechnology #TechAnalysis #Foresight #TechStudies
🔔 Out now: The Handbook of Technology Assessment, edited by Armin Grunwald of Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS). This Handbook provides a comprehensive overview of technology assessment (TA) practices, theories, methods and cultures across the globe. Highlighting the significant influence of rapidly changing technology on human life and development, it examines diverse perspectives on how TA can be developed to better meet the challenges of the future. Legal Responses to Unjustified Threats of Patent Infringement: Intellectual Property Approach or Unfair Competition Approach? By Minyu ZHENG Available on our website: https://lnkd.in/exzU7Fbt Read Chapter 1, which is free to access on Elgaronline: https://lnkd.in/eqzms84H ‘Commentators have long registered concerns about overenforcement of intellectual property rights and the proliferation of trolls and sham litigation. Comparing the laws in China, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States and drawing insights from the Paris Convention, this book explores the appropriate balance between protecting intellectual property rights and safeguarding freedom of competition. It also critically examines the important yet oft-overlooked question of when enforcing these rights will amount to unfair competition. A rare contribution to a timely and practical problem!’ – Peter K. Yu, Texas A&M University, US ‘An up-to-date and comprehensive primer on legal responses from patent law and unfair competition law of two major common law jurisdictions (the UK and the US) and two major civil law jurisdictions (Germany and China) to threats of patent infringement targeted at both primary and secondary actors. A must read!’ – Kung-Chung LIU, Singapore Management University, Singapore In this incisive book, Minyu Zheng examines the various legal responses to unjustified threats of patent infringement. Employing a comparative, jurisdiction-based analysis, Zheng investigates whether the unjustified nature of such threats originates from the inaccuracy of the infringing accusation, or the inappropriateness of issuing threats. In particular, Zheng reveals how to resolve threats which are issued in an undue way but contain a correct allegation of patent infringement. #Law #Lawyer #Legal #LinkedInLaw #PatentLaw #IntellectualProperty #CompetitionLaw #LegalPublishing #lawlibrary #research
