Last night we were celebrating the 75th anniversary of Edinburgh University Press with colleagues (past and present), authors, Trustees, members of our academic committee and many, many others who have been part of EUP's journey over the last 75 years. We were lucky enough to do so in the glorious new Edinburgh Futures Institute building. As I reflected on in my speech, much has changed, but at heart we remain as committed today to publishing the very best research in our chosen fields, and producing it to the highest of standards, as we were in 1949. We could not do that without all those who contribute to and support EUP, and to them I am deeply grateful. Here's to the next 75 years!

  • We are delighted to share that W. Hamish Fraser has won the 2024 Robert and Vineta Colby Scholarly Book Prize for his book, 'The Edinburgh History of Scottish Newspapers, 1850-1950'. 'Comprehensive, meticulously researched and argued, and impressively wide in scope, 'The Edinburgh History of Scottish Newspapers, 1850-1950' is an invaluable book for the specialist on Scottish newspapers and the long nineteenth-century periodical press as well as the general reader.’ - The Award Committee Awarded by The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals, The Colby Prize is intended to honour original book-length scholarship about nineteenth-century periodicals and newspapers of the kind that Robert and Vineta Colby themselves produced during their careers. The annual prize is awarded to a book published during the preceding year that most advances our understanding of the nineteenth-century British press. • EUP's publishing Internship will be run with the purpose of widening participation in the publishing industry. We invite candidates with neither publishing experience nor a postgraduate degree to apply for this year-long, full-time, paid opportunity that will provide key insights into academic publishing. We particularly encourage applications from school leavers, people with an undergraduate degree who were in the first generation of their family to attend university, people with an undergraduate degree who received scholarships and/or bursaries to support their studies, and people from communities that are currently underrepresented in the publishing industry. EDIA lead, Anna Glazier, on the internship: "We talk a lot about the barriers to embarking on a career in publishing and it’s exciting to be able to do something practical to widen participation in our industry. We’re looking forward to welcoming our publishing intern in October." https://lnkd.in/gUvj7Ey5
