In schools, a shared purpose in educating children is a fundamental driving force. However, to truly thrive, this shared purpose must extend to all aspects of school life and initiatives. As school leaders, it’s crucial to unite others around a belief in the future – inspiring people to take risks and invest their time and energy in building that future. A clear shared purpose inspires and motivates the entire school community. Students feel more connected to their education and staff feel more committed to their roles, leading to higher levels of engagement and satisfaction. School leaders have shared with BTS Spark coaches that they have not been as intentional as needed with cultivating and connecting with a shared purpose. Using the strategies they learned through coaching, school leaders have been able to create a more cohesive, motivated, and successful school community. #educationalleadership #principalsschools #coaching #schoolleaders

School leaders share with BTS Spark that their role can be very lonely. Since everyone is busy and working hard, they rarely reach out to collaborate with others. They feel they are effective and efficient when working by themselves. Yet, school leaders who understand the value of co-creating, and learn how to effectively collaborate, tell their coaches how much more effective they are as leaders. They share that they create better results when collaborating with a team – especially teams with diverse backgrounds, opinions, and ideas. What these school leaders had to learn were the practices that are key to developing great teams. They worked with their #BTSSpark coach on the dimensions of trust and what is required to function as a high-performing team. And, they managed their own state of being to have the courage to reach out for collaboration. School leadership doesn’t have to be lonely and isolating … #educationalleadership #principalsschools #coaching #schoolleaders

Giving back by changing minds. Each year BTS Spark have hosted non-profit leaders from around the NYC area to share some of what they know about effective leadership. These leaders range from global entities such as The World Bank, Global Business Coalition for Education, UNICEF and their Education Cannot Wait (ECW) initiative. They come from key New York city departments such as the NYC Department of Education, and New York School Health. They lead regional organizations serving youth and children, such as Sandy Hook Promise, Center for Whole-Child Education | Arizona State University Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, and Year Up. And they are also leaders from smaller community and neighborhood focused organizations such as South Bronx United and New York Cares. This type of giving back is key because it changes how the leaders view themselves. Many non-profit leaders are servant leaders – they give and serve others and rarely serve themselves. Indulging – as they frequently view it – in their own growth and development is often put off, or at best, continuously moved to the bottom of the list. This is a day for them to focus on themselves and their leadership abilities. This is a day to help shift their mindset of what a successful leader really does and looks like. This is part of how #BTSSpark give back. Not just giving back to support their work and mission, but giving back in order to help grow their influence and impact. #btsspark #humanleadership Read more at https://ow.ly/ANZY50SpR9v Find out more at https://ow.ly/X2nk50SpR9t
