Crutches, metal walking sticks and walking frames are among some of the items patients can return if they’ve borrowed the equipment or been issued the equipment from Ipswich or Colchester hospitals. Each item of equipment is deep cleaned, checked and maintained or repaired before being issued to another patient. Items that can be returned include: ✅ crutches ✅ metal walking sticks ✅ walking frames ✅ perching stools ✅ commodes ✅ shower chairs ✅ toilet frames How you return equipment is different depending on the area. • Hadi Zaheer started as a Medical Lab Assistant in ESNEFT Pathology and now works as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in our Biochemistry lab 🧪 #PathologyWeek Tell us a little about your role in Pathology at ESNEFT. I am a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist working in the Clinical Biochemistry lab. The role involves the processing of samples using both automated and manual methods. I’m involved with the maintenance of analysers and verification of results that are generated and in communicating these results to service users when required. How long have you worked at ESNEFT? I’ve been at ESNEFT for a little over 8 years. What do you enjoy the most about working in Pathology at ESNEFT? I’ve enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the willingness to work as a team and support each other. This is especially evident in the lab when issues arise and colleagues are always stepping up to help, including the seniors and managers. Being approachable and kind has been a key quality among the staff here. How has ESNEFT helped you with your personal growth and career development in Pathology? I started in blood science reception as a Band 2 Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) after finishing my masters. During my time as a MLA, I was given the opportunity to undertake the IBMS registration portfolio which would help me progress my career. With the guidance of the training team I completed this portfolio and it has allowed me to gain my professional registration and become a Biomedical Scientist. Through various training sessions provided by senior staff and colleagues together with the variety of experiences present here in ESNEFT Pathology, I have been able to progress my professional development and maintain a high standard of work. This has also helped make me comfortable in suggesting improvements or changes to processes which may help the service. What would you say to someone who is considering applying for a role in Pathology at ESNEFT? I would recommend working in Pathology at ESNEFT, especially after my personal experience and the professional and personal development that I’ve been able to undertake during my time here. The friendly atmosphere and a willingness to receive feedback and suggestions to help with improvements has helped foster a pleasant environment to work in. There have been endless opportunities to learn regardless of your job role and there has always been encouragement to naturally grow into more senior roles. #Pathology #PathologistsAndPatients #BiomedicalScience #HealthcareScience #NHS #NHSJobs #Biochemistry #JobsInPathology

  • The next phase of a multi-million pound upgrade which will make sure patients using Clacton Hospital can receive high quality healthcare in state-of-the-art surroundings has begun. We have appointed MTX Contracts Ltd (MTX) to carry out the improvements, which will see parts of the existing building demolished and a two-storey extension built to house a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). The Kate Grant and Jubilee areas will also be retained and refurbished as part of the project, which will create modern facilities which meet the changing needs of patients. The latest phase comes following a range of other improvements at the site, which have seen a new Community Diagnostic Centre and endoscopy suite built, the podiatry department move to a spacious new home and the Jubilee Infusion Lounge, where patients can receive a wide range of infusions, relocate to an easy-to-access ground floor base. Naomi Palmer, project manager, said: “We are delighted that Clacton Hospital is benefitting from such a significant investment. The work that has taken place so far has brought essential diagnostic services closer to home while vastly improving the environment in which our patients receive care. “The next phase of this major project will see a new, easy-to-access UTC created, along with extra clinical spaces. The work has been planned carefully so that patients can continue to access these services throughout construction without the need to travel further afield." We are working with NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board and NHS Property Services to carry out the project. NHS England and SNEE ICB have contributed funding. Work is due for completion in autumn 2025.
