The point of 6 Feet of Your Street is that it is a 'standing with' not 'doing to' project.' We need to learn from our experience and develop our projects effectively. There are enormous street level challenges ever present in this work. 6 Feet will be back, with more feet, more hands and more understanding of what to means to take positive action collectively, enfolding residents in the commitment to a reimagined, better neighbourhood.
EMU regrets to announce that the Six Feet of Your Street event scheduled for September 28th is postponed until next year. 1. The team at EMU has not had the capacity over the summer to undertake pre-engagement work on Harold Street with the community. 2. Recent work has highlighted to us that we are in danger of 'doing to' the community with this project and it needs a rethink in order to fully engage the community and involve residents in a much more meaningful way. (The KTP and East Marsh Community Plan work are addressing this.) 3. There would be significant cost to EMU to pay to close 1 block of 1 street - almost £2,000 for the closure, ESAG and TEN licence. EMU does not feel that this is an appropriate or affordable cost. 4. EMU is delivering a range of other events throughout September (including the postponed SEND Festival). We have to look after our staff and ensure we can fulfil all of our obligations and commitments. Thanks for your understanding.
