A Strathmartine Community Clean-Up has taken place this week as part of the Take Pride in Your City campaign. The initiative is part of the Dundee-wide environmental effort to make a positive difference to all city neighbourhoods, parks and open areas. The Community Clean-Up took place in the areas around Balgowan Avenue and Beauly Square where additional works were carried out by Council staff including the removal of litter and debris, strimming, general tidying of communal areas where required as well as sweeping to path & street areas. A number of events are being held to help pensioners to apply for Pensioners Credit. These drop-in sessions have been arranged at various venues throughout the city where people who think they are eligible can speak to a benefits advisor face to face. From this year, pensioners who receive pension credit are automatically eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment. Although the deadline for applying for the Winter Fuel Payment has passed, the team can help successful applicants get this payment backdated. If you or someone know thinks they are eligible for pension credit come along and speak to a benefits advisor face to face. A new community centre run by local people is set to be established in the Kirkton area of Dundee. A partnership between a local charity - Kirkton Community Centre SCIO - and the city council has been agreed this week to pave the way for the purpose-built facility. Residents of a multi-storey block in Dundee will have the chance to get on their bikes as a new storage facility is unveiled near their homes. In a trial project, a secure cycle storage unit has been constructed beside Lansdowne Court. The initiative is part of Dundee City Council’s Sustainable Transport Delivery Plan, which is designed to encourage and enable more city residents to take up active travel choices.
