Stuart Stevens, Head of Commercial and Policy Fraud, Direct Line Group responded: “The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) and Association of British Insurers play a key role in tackling the issue of ghost broking, fraudsters selling fake insurance, often through social media platforms.   “At Direct Line Group, our teams actively monitor social media platforms to identify criminals engaged in ghost broking. We work continuously to protect our customers from these scams to ensure the polices purchased are only legitimately sold by us. Innocent consumers could find they lose money and potentially face criminal charges if they fall victim to a ghost broker. Our charity days give employees the chance to give something back to the community by volunteering for a local charity. This summer, some of our colleagues volunteered at Foal Farm Animal Rescue Centre near Bromley. They spent the day painting fences, performing maintenance, and caring for pigs, goats, sheep, and rabbits. Copywriter Chris says, "It was a real pleasure to help out at Foal Farm alongside the heroic staff who care for the animals all year round. And to do it with my colleagues made it even more fun!" At Direct Line Group, supporting people is part of what we do, whether through our insurance products or our Charity Days. We actively encourage our employees to spend a day a year volunteering with a charity that matters to them. To get the most from this experience, we’ve recently partnered with Neighbourly. This online platform is home to a network of over 30,000 local charities and community groups, from food banks to hospices, and it helps match volunteers with good causes that will benefit from their time and skills. In July, this involved some of our team spending the day with Refuge Network International, where they helped to distribute food, toiletries and other essential items as part of a homeless outreach event in London. Refuge Network International told us, “Kind-hearted volunteers signed up to support our homeless service users and members of the community struggling to survive the current cost of living crisis. It was great to visit our Doncaster office, where my colleagues are focused on delivering exceptional service to our customers. It was also a pleasure to meet Doncaster Central MP Sally Jameson to discuss the positive impact our business has on the local community and local economy. I look forward to DLG continuing to support both for years to come.

We caught up with Niyaz, who joined DLG on an apprenticeship and is currently working towards becoming a Level 4 Software Engineer. Niyaz explains, “If I’m honest, I think I was going through a bit of a crisis during my A-levels. I had been planning to go to university, but then I thought, why am I studying all this stuff that’s going to be obsolete in a few years? The Tech industry moves so fast. So, I thought the best way to learn about Tech was by actually being in the industry itself. I started looking at apprenticeships, and when I saw an opportunity with Direct Line Group, I mean, everybody in the UK has heard of Direct Line, so I thought that would be a good company for me to work for, with good values and who would look after me. It can be a bit hard at times, but I’m all for it. It’s exciting. I can’t wait to see how far I can go in the next year or so.” Are you looking to kick-start your career?
