Standing firm on this phantom passenger case results in a £39,000 saving for our policyholder!    BACKGROUND  It was alleged that our insured vehicle had collided with the rear of the third-party vehicle. Our insured driver stated it was the third party that had rolled backwards.    CLAIM DETAILS  14 months post-accident, we received multiple personal injury claims with no medical attention sought by any claimant.    OUTCOME  We already had claims farming concerns due to the delayed PI claims, but when cross-referencing our insured driver’s statement confirming the details they obtained at the scene of the third party vehicle occupants; the number of occupants and the names did not match the claims that had been received.     As there was also only minor damage sustained to the rear bumper of the third party vehicle, we now also had both occupancy and causation concerns.    We placed the matter in the hands of our solicitors to investigate and defend in full, and as a result the claimant solicitors confirmed they had closed their file.    Defending this case in full meant a £39,000 saving for our policyholder!    #ProtectingPolicyholders #FightingFraud

Changes to our policies to further support our broker partners! As a result of broker feedback, from the 1st September 2024, the following changes will come into effect across our fleet policy wordings: - Broader cancellation rights. Brokers will be able to instruct cancellation where a policyholder defaults on a premium instalment facility which is provided by a recognised finance provider.*    - A more focused wording when it comes to alarm and tracking devices.    - AD contingency cover whilst the insured vehicle is with a motor trader for repair or maintenance. 💡Farmed claim found out thanks to vital intel...    BACKGROUND  It was alleged in this case that our insured had hit a parked third party vehicle.     CLAIM DETAILS  We received multiple PI claims and concerns were raised initially that the claim may have been staged by the insured driver. So, we passed our file to our solicitors to investigate the matter in full.    OUTCOME  While initially they were unable to find any evidence of collusion, once the medical records were reviewed it became apparent that the claims had all the hallmarks of a farmed claim:    - Medical records showed that none of the claimants had attended their GP for their alleged injuries but had attended for other non-related issues during the prognosis period.  - In addition to this, one of the claimants was examined by a medical expert who was of concern. We were able to use the fact that this medical expert is currently suspended by the General Medical Council to diminish their credibility.     Our solicitors continued to robustly defend these personal injury claims and advised we make a Calderbank offer to the third party driver for the vehicle damage claim only. This offer was accepted, and the two passenger claims were discontinued resulting in a £26,000 saving for our policyholder.    #ProtectingPolicyholders #FightingFraud

Enhancing our policies to further support our broker partners!
