🧟♂️ Zombies aren’t just for Halloween… did you know our cells can turn into them too? For people with diabetes, foot ulcers can be extra slow to heal. And scientists think zombie-like cells may be to blame. These zombie cells don’t die when they should and release harmful chemicals that can damage our bodies and turn surrounding cells into zombies too. We’ve funded Dr Holly Wilkinson to research if anti-ageing drugs could kill zombie cells in foot ulcers to help them heal faster and reduce the risk of more serious foot problems. 🎃 Could this be the trick to treating foot ulcers? Autumn Budget 2024 Did you watch the budget? We had a close eye on the Chancellor’s speech today as yesterday, we shared an article on what we wanted to see announced: https://orlo.uk/c7UKN So, what did we learn? 1️⃣ The government announced a £22.6bn increase to the NHS’s budget to reduce the waiting times patients currently face in getting treatment ❗ We welcome this but also urge the government to use the NHS 10-Year Plan to invest in and improve the uptake of routine diabetes care. This will give people with diabetes the support they need to live well. 2️⃣ The soft drinks industry levy (known as the sugar tax) will rise in line with inflation and a review will be done on sugar thresholds and the current exemption of milk based drinks ❗ We’re pleased to see this progress to encourage soft drinks manufacturers to produce healthier products
